Celtic Rock/Punk

I love, absolutely love, Celtic punk bands such as Dropkick Murphys, Flogging Molly, and The Mahones. So, basically, my dream came true when I found out about Smithwick's Sessions -- a series of free Celtic Rock/Punk shows across the country including 12 in DC. Maria and I went to the first one tonight and the band, Hoist the Colors, was great. However, Smithwick's completely dropped the ball regarding promotion. Nobody seemed to know about the show and Maria and me were actually the only ones who went to hear the band (the bar would have been empty were it not for the kickball teams that stopped in). There were no signs or anything advertising the series.

So, I am taking things into my own hands in my own limited way. If you are in to this kind of music, or even if you aren't but think you might be, go to:

http://www.csmfb.com/smithwickssessions/

And check out the calendar. Among bands that are coming are:

Rum Rebellion (playing tomorrow in Georgetown)
The Mighty Stef
The Riptide Movement
Heathers
The Mahones
Mundy

I am not familiar with all of these, but The Mahones are one of my favorite bands and Rum Rebellion is great. Mundy had the number one song in Ireland a few years ago (despite that, I'm not so excited about his shows).

So, go, have a beer, some bangers and mash, and catch a great show.

The Mahones put on a fantastic live show. We just saw them last month and have tickets to see them this month in Baltimore (bought those before we knew about their two DC shows). They are also really down to earth nice people.

Maria and I were again the only members of the audience, this time for Rum Rebellion. Just in case you ever wondered, two people is not enough for a functional mosh pit. Stage dives were entirely out of the question. The only good thing I can say is that it was very easy to meet the band members.

Try to come out and see a show. These bands deserve better than this.

Bumping because this week's shows start tonight. I don't know which ones we will make this week, but I hope some of you go. These bands have travelled a long way to play to empty rooms so please give them some support.
