Manicure before delivery?

Any reason not to have nail polish on hands when handling a newborn????

No, but most hospitals prefer you not wear fingernail polish. Blue fingernails are one of the first indications of a problem with your oxygen intake, and because of the possibility of surgery or other emergency situation, it is probably safest not to wear it.

However, I am sure plenty of women do. I always get my toes done right around my due date.

I got a mani and pedi a couple of days before both deliveries. I get them regularly. No one ever said a word to me beforehand during the tour or during labor or anything. I have never heard that hospitals don't like this.

None that I know of but who wants chipped nails when you're dealing with a three week old and sleep deprived? I'd suggest a nice manicure and a buff - something that makes you feel good but are not compelled to keep up or redo.

You can get them trimmed, but skip the polish. This isn't for pregnancy, but you never know if you need to go for a C-section.

"Nail Polish—Please remove any nail polish before arriving at the hospital. If you are wearing nail polish and haven’t removed it yet, you will be given nail polish remover to take it off. This is done because the doctors/nurses need to be able to see your natural finger nail to check your circulation. Nail polish may also get in the way of the pulse oximeter monitor, which is a small machine that gently clips onto your finger to keep track of your pulse and how well you are breathing."

Yes! I did a pedicure and a French manicure about a week before my due date. My nails were the best looking part of me in the first pictures.

Two good reasons: your exposure and baby's exposure to the chemicals. I often used my finger in baby's mouth to stop screaming until I could sit down and nurse him somewhere.

I'm getting a pedicure but I'll skip the manicure. I just don't like the idea of nail polish possibly chipping off in the baby's mouth.

I never put my finger in my baby's mouth. A pacifier yes, but not my fingers.

Did you breastfeed? I had to use my finger to break a bad latch a lot.in the beginning. Is there a better way to do it?

Probably not. Won't even put a finger in her baby's mouth? Definitely not going to put a boob in there.
