What skill should I learn?

Anonymous
At the beginning of the year our family set out a bunch of goals for 2014, including that everyone in the family learn something. My kids have learned to use the potty (3 yo) and read (6 yo). My husband taught himself how to do bicycle maintenance. But I still need to learn something new. (I have learned new things for work, but that doesn't seem that fun.)

It doesn't need to be a class (although it could be). I'm not super crafty, have no interest in music, and already know how to cook.

Any ideas? What do you want to learn?

+1. Based on not crafty, likely outside work domain, teaching moment to learn traditional male dominated skills from Mom. Plus, you can practice new camp recipes over the fire you built.

Some ideas:
Learn American Sign Language
First aid/CPR
Knitting
Spanish or other foreign language
Some aspect of cooking - canning, veggies, fish - more than learning to make just one dish
How to pick out perfect produce
Do you already know how to drive stick? Change a tire? Check the oil? Fix a toilet? Unclog a sink?

Let us know what you decide!

+1. Get some basic skills that require no creativity, like sewing buttons, hemming pants, patching holes in jeans, using a sewing machine, etc. It is endlessly useful, especially in our era where clothes are basically crap.

I bought the Make:Electroncs book and kit and am learning about electricity, how to solder breadboards, fuses, switches. My kid is starting to want to take things apart and I am embarrassed to admit I know nothing about electronics.

I am excited to learn a "non-girly" skill instead of learning how to see, garden, or knit.

I love to sew. I make clothes for my kids and purses for myself. Even made a few blouses for myself. Napkins too.

You could learn to touch type. Sign language. Either the alphabet, or spell your names. Simple phrases like thank you etc.

Scrapbooking.

Photography.

Candlemaking can be fun.

Crotcheting or knitting.

Maybe challenge your cooking skills. Crockpot only meals? Or incorporate something new? An exotic ingredient or cuisine? Ex. I just made chicken with mole sauce. The other night I made Thai food with tofu.

Write a story for your kids?

Me too. We are using the Elenco set. My DDs love it! I am learning more myself.
