Please provide reviews and recommendations (or camps to avoid) for 2014. The threads in previous years have helped me out but sometimes worry that the info is dated.
So far, we haven't done any camps, so I don't have any experiences to share yet but will do so as the summer goes on. thanks! I'll start. We started at Holton yesterday. 10 year old girl. She loves it. I get the impression it is alot of kids, but it is very well organized and well run. So far, so good.

Gymkana at UMD is amazing if your kids like gymnastics/active type camps. |
American Dance institute - Junior Broadway camp.(Ballet and tap dancing) - Wonderful. Good timings with after care. End of the week parents attend performance.
|
Game Programming - Heights school (Boys only) - introducing DS to computer programming and he loves it. |
My 5 year old started at Headfirst this week.
Headfirst has been in the news a lot lately with the fighting between founders and lawsuit. I've had people ask how it seemed this year and my response is it seem exactly the same as last year - well run and organized. 5 year old LOVES it. The one change I noticed is a $30/week hike in prices. Yikes. $459 is steep. |
I have a younger child at GraceEd (HoopEd) at Grace Episcopal in Kensington. My child is in a full-day regular camp program (not sports-themed) and LOVES it. The kids are kept super busy and the teachers/counselors are so nice.
They still have availability throughout the summer, with several types of camp to choose from. They also offer before/after care. http://hoopeducation.com/grace/ |
Calleva..we are big fans. Well run, cool counselors, many choices. |
My kids (ages 4 and 6) did a week of Marvatots last week and were very happy. I wish they had the opportunity to get outside but they were certainly very active and everyone was friendly. Great coverage for the gap weeks between camp and school. |
Montgomery Village Camp Soaring Stars - love it. Can live in Montgomery Village or not. Very affordable in comparison to many of the other programs. They do swim lessons every day, and go on a field trip each session. |
My 9-year-old is in the middle of her second week at Calleva and calls it the best camp ever. Lots of cool outdoor activities - kayaking canoeing, archery, etc. - that we never do as a family. |
We're doing sidwell summer's explorers- 4 yo.
I have honestly never hear him so excited about anything in my life as camp! So happy, and it was pretty cheap as we signed up in January - so less than $300 a week for 8:45-3. Couldn't be happier. |
Yikes! I pay $650/week for sleep away camp. |
Well, yes, that price increase must compensate for the layers fees. The kids that work for then however, are still getting paid peanuts. What a shame... |
My son is doing McLean wonderkids. They are doing a minecraft week, somehow doing camp around minecraft. He loves it. |
