I know, I know

For some reason it's hard for me to her a 6 or 7 year old say, "I know, I know." When you tell them something that they have hear before. Is this bad manners? How do you change this?

6 or 7 -year-old? My four-year-old says that all the time. It drives me crazy. Let me know if you find a solution.

My 11 yr old went through this phase. I told her it was really disrespectful and she needed to find something else to use as her standard response. It took a few reminders but after a couple of weeks she stopped.

I'll one up you my 3 yr old says "aaaggghh why did you say that? Valerie [her alter ego] knows that!!"

Oh that sounds pretty deranged now that I type it out. Oh well.

My 4 year old puts her hands over her ears and says she doesn't want to hear me talk.

Such a joy.

Actually, that's why my mom used to say to me: "Well, I don't think you do know, because you haven't done it."

"Excuse me?" + Mom Look

We get "yeah, yeah." No idea why DD talks like an old-school Brooklyn gangster. I think it's mildly amusing, but DH finds it rude and tells her so.

Something tells me a new-school Brooklyn "gangsta" would sound quite different entirely.

My 7 year old said yesterday, as an excuse, she was "in summer mode." I said..."where did you hear that term, because I know you didnt invent it." Then she asked me "when work would end for the summer." I laughed and laughed.

I love this too -- where the heck did she get "Valerie" from -- how early '70s is that? OP, I'm pretty much a stickler on manners and I can understand how this could drive you nuts, but as the parents of teens and college students, I'd advise you to pace yourself and pick your battles.
