Fastweb scholarship site - scam?

Anonymous
Has anyone ever gotten a scholarship through Fastweb scholarship? It's totally unclear what the chances are for success when applying for any of these scholarships. Is it worthwhile or are tens of thousands of students applying for these? I want to direct DS toward scholarships that he has at least a tiny chance of winning. I'm also open to any advice from those who have experience applying for and getting scholarships.

Yes, my daughter just graduated from an Ivy. She won about 5 or 6 different essay contests she learned about from fast web ranging anywhere from a $200 prize to $2500 and $5000. The money really added up. We found it by accident and are surprised that more h.s. don't tell students about it.

I signed up thinking I might get good information about scholarships and financial aid. My email is being flooded and 99% is useless, and the other 1% I already knew. Though my experience may be the exception to the rule, I would say to check it out and see if it works for you.

Thanks for this. I was told about this by our college guidance people. We've been looking at Fastweb, and trying to get DC to apply for a few of them. It takes time, but according to our guidance guy, kids who devote the time will win some scholarships. He told us one kid who spent hours and hours got a free ride to a state school from all the $500 scholarships he accumulated over the course of a year. So it's legit, not a scam, we think. I'll report back if DC wins some scholarships.

Good luck OP. Yes, we found fastweb to be a great site. If I identified all of the things my dd got from it, she would be identifiable. We couldn't believe that for some of the essay contests, only a few people applied, so the odds of winning some of them (example Optimists International or something like that) was high. We also found out about the Coca-Cola Foundation Scholarship on fast web and she also got that as well as others I won't mention so as not to identify her.

P.S. Overall, the scholarships/essay contests winnings came to about $20k for our dd and we were thrilled since she didn't qualify for financial aid and Ivies don't give merit aid.
