Are You A Math Whiz? Quick Question Please...Need Your Help!

I am in competition with a coworker for a prize.

The winner of the prize is the team member with the highest % increase in revenue in the second half of the month (compared to the first half). This is for last month (May 2014).

Here are our numbers:

First half of the month (1-15th):
Coworker - $154,219.61 in closed revenue
Me - $115,332.77 in closed revenue

Total closing revenue for the month (1-31st)
Coworker - $350,944.59
Me - $242,707.61

Can you tell me who had the highest percent increase in sales and by how much?

Anonymous
Your coworker. Her sales increased 128% in the second half of month compared to the first half, whereas yours increased 110%.

OP, what kind of sales/what product or service?
Anonymous
Coworker - 27% ((350-154-154)/154*100)
you - 10% ((242-115-115)/115*100)

The formula is old minus new divided by old (in that order, not order of operations). Then multiply by 100.

the coworker and PPs percentages are correct. If you want to know how to calc for future use divide last half of the month by the first half X100.

^^ didn't notice others have posted. The correct percentage increase for coworker and you are 127.60% and 110.44%

Next time they run this, game it to snot. Book low volume the first 15 days, delay as much as you can to close on the 16th. It's a double whammy because you get both the benefit of a smaller baseline and the incrementality of the higher $ later.

Whoever designed this compensation scheme should be shot

Yes! I totally would have done this but the problem is they rolled this out on the 15th. Overall our entire team is below our target goal so our manager put this contest in place last minute to try and get us to push harder to close out the monh strong.

It sucks because I had just pushed a couple of high dollar value transactions through on the 14th. As soon as this contest was rolled out on the 15th I thought to myself "damnit if only those two big transactions had closed on the 16th".

I am shocked that anybody that can't do this math can sell $200K of anything.

The only thing better than that is that you called the person with an answer a 'math whiz'. This is seriously 6th or 7th grade math.
