Looking for a new summer reading Romance author - similar to Nora Roberts or Amanda Quick

Anonymous
I love to read, but never have time anymore (unless you count audio books in the car... It's kind of sad, but I now actually enjoy traffic LOL!)

Now that the kids are a little older and able to play on their own, I find I have *some* time - like 10-15 minute stretches - to read actual paper books. My guilty pleasure is definitely the "romance novel" (sometimes referred to as "bodice rippers") I've randomly picked some up, and 90% of them are practically porn! I prefer a good story with some steamy scenes - not steamy scenes with cheesy pots just to fill in the blanks.

I LOVE Diana Gabaldon, but I barely get through a page at a time with her books. I enjoy Nora Roberts and Amanda Quick, but I've worked my way through most of their stories. I'm looking for something that's quick, but a decent story.

Any suggestions?

Jennifer Crusie & Julia Quinn are both fun. Crusie writes funny contemporaries, while Quinn has a whole interconnected series of historicals. I would say both are in the same vein as Nora and Amanda Quick.

Second Jennifer Crusie!

I just read an absolutely amazing read I picked up used Hardcover for a dollar, but it was worth so much more.

"A Good Woman" by Danielle Steel.

A woman's Father and brother die tragically on the Titanic, leaving her and her mother alone.

Her life takes many dramatic turns, very unpredictable turns and the reader feels such empathy for this fragile and beautiful character.

It's a beautiful story and there are no raunchy sex scenes to worry about.

Non-trashy.

Are you aware that Amanda Quick is a pen name for Jane Ann Krentz? She also writes under Jayne Castle.

My favorite historical romance writer is the late Judith Merkle Riley. Brave heroines, smart heroes, evil historical figures one can read more about elsewhere, slightly supernatural, very funny.

OP again - thank you thank you!!! I'll definitely have to check them out.

And no, I didn't realize Amanda Quick was a pen name!

same PP here. Quick/Krentz/Castle - she even has a recent triple threat series where she does interrelated stories. A Victorian as Quick, contemporary as Krentz, and futuristic as Castle. It was fun. It was that Jones & Jones and Arcane Society storyline.

How fun to surprise you with all these books you didn't know about yet. You have lots to look forward to!

OP I only read romance. Here are my picks. I've read every single Nora Roberts book she has written. Amanda Quick is the pseudonym for Jayne Anne Krentz for contemporary romance and Jayne Castle for her sci-fi series.

I'm not a historical fan so here are my contemporary pics. For all of these picks go to the author website to get the order of the books. I love series so here goes.

Marie Force Gansett Island series. There are 11 in the series and could not put them down. If 11 books is too much her Treading Water series was spectacular and only 4 books. I think that this series was my favorite. Truly wonderful and the characters stuck with me for a few days after I finished the books. She also has a murder mystery/romance series but I absolutely love her Gansett Island Series. She also has brand new Green Mountain Series. The second book comes out Tuesday and I can't wait.

Julie James- FBI/US Attorney Series- Her characters are great. Her dialog is fantastic, sex scenes are steamy. She is a relatively new author but you will love her

Jaci Burton- Play-by-Play Series

Susan Elizabeth Phillips-Chicago Stars Series first book is "It Had to Be You" she has written my favorite book of all time "Match Me If You Can" which is part of this series
Susan Mallery-Fool's Gold Series
Jill Shalvis-Lucky Harbor
Robin Kaye-She has a couple of series. The lastest is the Bad Boys of Red Hook
Robin Carr-Virgin River series
Bella Andre-Sullivans
Shannon Stacey-Kowalskis

If you like romantic suspense or romantic action/adventure

Suzanne Brockmann's Troubleshooter Series
Maya Banks- KGI series
Cindy Gerard Bodyguards/BOI

I know I have more in this genre, but I am blanking right now I will have to go check my Kindle and my audible account.

If you are comfortable or interested in the "romantica" genre-these are way more explicit and kinky. Very hot but you have to be comfortable with MMF thresomes and other kink.

Olivia Cunning-Sinners on Tour
Lorelai James-Rough Riders
Lauren Dane-Brown Siblings/Delicious series-She also has more traditional romance series Chase Brothers and Petal, Georgia series
