If you or spouse makes over $400,000 a year, what is your job?

Are you a partner in a law firm (big, medium or small)? Are you a surgeon? I'm so curious to know what you do to bring in such a large salary.

This thread again?

Really? Why this amount? If you're trying to figure out what we do to earn "such a large salary", why not read the $1mm+ thread?

If you can't figure that out...yikes.

Isn't it clear? If you're interested in dreaming about making a bunch of money, wouldn't it be more wise to read the thread where people are making more than a million $ per year? This isn't a difficult concept.

Wow. Lots of hostility here. I wonder why??

OP, my husband is in consulting and makes above $400k. Works crazy hours and travels a lot.

There's no hostility at all. I also can't understand why a person would want to know how to make $400k per year or more instead of $1mm per year or more.

Maybe $400K is what OP thinks they need to live comfortably or for one person to give up their job - doesn't need a million or think that is achievable?

CEO of small-medium size company.

Better to aim high and miss than to aim low and hit your target.

Owner of medium sized co. (120ish employees)

Why is $1m your cut off? Why not $5m? Yikes!

$1mm isn't my cutoff. I make more. $5mm isn't my "cut off" either.

I'm honestly not trying to be snarky here , but it's going to probably come out that way ... It seems like weekly, someone is asking how much does x job make , who makes x amount of money , how much is your house and how much do you make , how much savings do you have, and on and on. I sincerely would like to know how this information is actually useful to someone. It sounds like a high school project I had to do or like someone is trying to plan what to major in or something because DCUM posters did so . If truly interested in picking a career or how much a profession makes , aren't there official and better sources out there ?

I get the curiosity. We live in an area where it seems like so many people make a lot of money -- I often wonder what all these people do. It seems crazy that the area can support all of the high earners, since I assume for every high earner, a company has many, many low or mid-range earners.

I wonder the same thing when I drive around super rural areas that are too far to be commutable to an urban area -- what do all these people do to support themselves? So it's not just wondering about rich people, but people generally.
