I am a 45 yr. young (!!) mother of three grown children.
So, I went shopping this weekend and bought two pairs of slip on Vans Classic. You know...The ones w/the checkers on them. Well....The nerve. My children are mortified. They actually asked me if I was actually going to wear those in public. Of course, I said, I wasn't going to spend $50 on a pair of sneakers/kicks just to wear them around the house. They then told me I was too old to wear Vans...Esp. checkered slip-on's and that if I wore them, I would look like a joke. I told my kids I wore them as a kid, I admit, but still love them because they are quick and easy to put on (duh!) plus the high quality of Vans shoes in general makes them a good value. Plus I DO live in California!
Opinions? |
| Cool story bruh. |

Like cowabunga dude. Totally tubular. To the max.
Ugh. Gag me with a spoon. |
| From what I hear, Vans work only if you choose the right accessories ... like a joint. Sorry! |
|
Mortifying your kids is a great reason to wear them.
I wouldn't do the checks, but, really, they're pretty basic sneakers. |

I just bought hot pink low-top Cons so I say rock whatever you want. My kids love my new shoes but they are elementary aged girls and I've got lots of crazy shoes.
Maybe your kids are reacting to the purchase being out of the mainstream for you. Are most of your shoes safe, "Mom" shoes? |
| I would totally wear them but I already have a pair with shamrocks all over them. |
| You can wear them, especially if you live in CA. Everything we do embarrasses our kids. |
Or a skate board |
Children will always come to an age where they are embarrassed by their parents. It doesn't matter WHAT you do, it will happen. Be yourself. Your kids will appreciate that eventually (unless you do too crazy stuff like running around naked >.> It's also the perfect time to teach them about how we all are individuals and feeling good in your own skin matters more, than adhering to other people's opinions Go for the Vans if they make you happy!

| I want a pair. Usually wear Chucks, time for a change! |
| You didn't have to say anything. We already knew you weren't from this area... |
| My teenage daughter is mortified I get most of my clothes from Modcloth--and I am older than you. I buy her off by buying some small thing for her each time I order. |

Check out Tiffany Wendel rock Vans.
http://tiffanywendel.com/?offset=1395777840000 I think the key is to have really upmarket details to make them from looking kooky. |
Because someone from D.C. wouldn't title any post about "Off the Wall" Vans. Only West Coast. |
