High School Graduation Gift - Going Rate?

Anonymous
What is the going rate for a high school graduation gift? She is a daughter of a good friend.

I would think $100 to friends daughter, $150 normally and $250 from aunts/uncles. Each grandparent gave $1000-1500.

I do $50 ... But I have 5 nieces/nephews graduating this year.

Guess I am the cheap aunt.

Wow, wish I was related to you!

$50 if they are related. Otherwise less unless they are like family.

This is just insane. Probably same poster on money forum who feels poor at 500k hhi. This is not what us real 'middle classers' gift. I'd say more like $25 for a non-relative, 50 for relative, maaaybe 100 for a really special person such as goddaughter etc.

In 1985 I got $20-$50. Plugged into an inflation calculator, that's $43-$109 today.

I was going to say $25. $50 if you're really close with the friend.

Definitely not the going rate. I'd say $25-$100 depending on how close the graduate is to you.

I gave $500 to close family, $200 to son of best friend, $100 for neighbors.

Weddings are $200 minimum.

Wow... I was thinking $20.00 we have always done that and that is what our kids received or even less. Just was thinking more of $25.00 this year. Who give $100? I so far have 18 grad parties to go too, plus plan our sons!
