I'm not talking about "DC" stylish a la Tory Burch or South Moon Under or fresh from some Tyson's shopping spree! Like, obviously not from around here or been here long super chic style. There's a mother I see at my DC's school who's style is just really, really chic and I don't think she's actually more than 4 or 5 years younger than me (I am 35, so she's late 20s or early 30s) but without the kid walking along next to her she could easily look like she stepped out of one of those New York Fashion Week street snaps I always see on Pinterest!! Granted, I think they just moved here from LA and I think they are international.... honestly, I see her and I think to myself, I am wearing all J.Crew and I hate myself! |
What sorts of things is she wearing that you admire? Start small, if you'd like to spruce up. |
I wonder how the heck she does it. Where she has the time. |
You hate yourself??? Because some mom is stylish? Wow, that's pathetic.
When I see a stylish mom, I feel fine. I'm happy for her. I'm smart and funny and a great mom, wife, boss and friend. I don't let what someone is wearing determine how I feel about myself. I hope you do not have a daughter that you are passing this warped view onto. |
You can compliment her style and ask her if she can recommend any local or online retailers. |
I was being facetious, guess your sense of "funny" does not actually mean you have a sense of humor! She wears things like black patent chelsea boots, fur gilets, super skinny jeans and she actually has the legs for it, her hair has that effortless wave like she's Kate Moss or something. Her jewelry is really original, it's almost artful. I think she works in fashion. I'd like to ask her about her style but she totally has that effortless thing going on because her closet must just be full of amazing pieces. |
There was a woman on my block who was a SAHM to one DC in elementary school. She always seemed very dressed up - heels, slacks, nice jeans, accessories, hair very nice etc... when she would walk him to school.
Turns out her DH was having an affair and she was probably dressing up like that to try to get his attention. |
Or he married her because she was beautiful but still had a weakness for other beauty coz guys like that are insatiable. |
You can come stand next to me, OP, you'll feel great quickly! |
Me, too! I love to see stylish moms who are rocking it, but that's never been my thing. |
Me too. ![]() OP, I'd ask her about her clothes. I'm sure she'd be flattered. |
Must be the nanny! |
I think "oh good, I've found my people." |
I'm jealous and I wish I knew how to be effortlessly chic! |
I feel intimidated when I see super stylish women like this. I would think that she was judging my old navy, macys, gap clothes with none to min jewelry. |
