If his GPA was higher than he should have been ahead of them on the list. Must be other factors that pushed them ahead. Low income? |
Exactly these rankings lag behind by a few years. This is mostly a reflection of the lower-stands brought on by the test buying admissions scandal. |
He probably got the answers wrong in the problem solving essay. That would be a rejection. |
and likely didnt include a sob story about life experiences |
They’re not a low incone family and not filthy rich. “But the essays” I know. People here had the kids admitted with wrong answer and unfinished essays. Like, somehow the low achieving kids all of a sudden wrote better essays than the motivated ones. Give me a break. |
White, not black or latino, is the group benefiting the most from this anti-Asian admissions process. |
The new admission process is no longer attracking the top students from middle schools. This rating fall is just the begining. The first batch under the new admission process is 2025 batch. |
whats with parents with students not at tj being so obsessed with the school? |
To be honest, I follow this because this was the exact reason I did not have my kid apply. Since this verifies my concerns, it is of interest to me. I will also be interested in the majority of Tj’s college acceptances next year |
People are focusing too much on the low income experience points. Don't forget that kids also get a decent number of points for having an IEP. The lower achieving white kids getting admitted probably have an ADHD diagnosis. Also, the portrait of a graduate essays are about things like describing a time when you resolved a conflict, what famous person do you most admire and why (real question, based on article about new admissions process and class of 2025), describe a time you advocated for yourself, etc. They're fluff essays that any kid without prep might have bombed. |
How does any of this help TJ admissions decide if the applicant has badic math skill to move past basic TJ Math 1&2? |
GPA matters very very very little in comparison to the essays and experience factors. Like almost insignificantly. |
Equity |
The real reason that they use essays and drop everything else in freshman admissions is to take away any recourse from parents and shovel in people's throat whatever decisions they make. In sophomore admissions, when "equity" is not the main goal, they bring all back test scores and teachers' recommendations. |
Actually, GPA matters very little in the rating rubric. And level of class isn't considered... and there are multiple school districts sending kids... and any sort of GT/AAP isn't classes are not considered... and everyone applying has roughly the same GPA by FCPS own admissions. |
