My child was placed at Imagine Morningside for the 2014-2015 academic school year. I cannot find any reviews on the school after extensive research. Can anyone provide any insight or reviews on the school administration, parental involvement and performance of this charter school? |
Check the MD Scorecard at www.mdreportcard.org. Have you checked Great Schools? |
Yes, I have checked Great Schools. However, I had no knowledge of MD Scorecard. I will check there now. Thank you! |
I have a child at this school, they started out well in 2011 but things are starting to dwindle as they are admitting all kind of "ghetto" kids right now. Most of the teachers are very good and the academic curriculum is very advanced, if your child is not on grade level or above, it will be a struggle for the child but they have an intervention program that may help. The principal and the academic facilitator are full of themselves; they pretend like they are listening to your concerns but all they are looking out for is themselves and how to make a name for themselves; very hypocritical pair. Overall, considering the state of Prince Georges' county public schools, it is a good school with high parental involvement as well, you just have to keep the communication lines open. They have horrible teacher aides though. |
Thanks for your insight as a parent of a child who attends Morningside! We went on a tour of the Morningside shortly after my child was placed. I was not impressed with the principal at all. As you stated, he seemed to be "full of himself". We visited a few of the classrooms. Some teachers had a good "command" of their classrooms and seemed orderly, while others did not. The entrance and inside of the school seemed particularly dreary and not well-lit. I like the fact that they offered a foreign language class to the children. Overall, I was okay with the school. However, we accepted another placement at one of the PG specialty schools. |
Oh good, that is nice to hear, I am looking for a way out of the school but more than likely, I will move out of PG county. All the best to you and your child! |
Thanks and best of luck to you and your child as well ![]() |
Wow. Maybe it was a blessing my child did not get picked for the lottery. I will not be applying next year for this school. |
I have been a parent at Imagine Morningside for 4 years and since it opened. The curriculum and instruction here is rigorous and advanced, as one poster mentioned. The teachers are awesome and really take the time to get to know you and your child. The parental involvement and PTO are the best hands down. Compared to other Prince George's County Public Schools this is one of the best. The only negative is the lack of extra curricular activities for students. However I do realize that being that they are a fairly new school things like this will take time.
As far as letting so called "ghetto" families in, you must realize this is a public school meaning "not exclusive". Anyone living in PG County may apply. So if your looking for a strict admission policy then go pay for it at a private school. |
Any more recent insight? |
So by "ghetto," do you mean Black? Poor? Rambunctious? It's a really loaded word, racist as all get out, really, so please elaborate. |
Great school! My children have attended Imagine since it's inception, and the school (faculty and staff) are outstanding. Parents are involved, curriculum is advanced, but they are learning. Family oriented, safe, and supportive is what this school exudes, and my children truly love the structure, their teachers, and friends. It is my hope and prayer that any parent who reads this post as well as the other comments, considers placing their child on lottery. Blessings. |
Does anyone have any updated information about this school. My little one was recently offered a placement for the 2016-2017 school year. I have been researching but I have not been able to find a lot of review. I have taken a looking at the state results and climate surveys, but just wondering if anyone has any other info. |
Check Schooldigger.com - lots of data here |
My son went here for his Kindergarten year 2016-2017 and his teacher was Mrs. Baker. I enjoyed her personality, her involvement with the parents, getting to know your child and his/her needs, strengths and weaknesses. Her focus was truly preparing your child for 1st grade & beyond. Mrs. Cornish also is very good teacher and she was a 1st grade teacher before teaching Kindergarten so they both work together to give your child that advantage. The staff is very involved as well as SOME of the parents. I work full time and still went on every field trip but one. I had no issues with the former Principal Dr. Gaithers he was actually really involved instead of trying to sport a Jaguar. My son is and will be attending this school until we either move out of the area or there becomes a big issue that can not be resolved. I have a peace of mind with the Morningside Police Barracks right there with all that is going on in our society now a days. This school just became a charter a few years ago so people need to accept change, be patient and get more involved instead of complaining about what is not right or what something physically looks like. IF@M is one of many Imagine charters schools in the country. They have locations in other states such as FL, TX etc. I have enjoyed my son first year here over his first year in Pre-K at Avalon Elementary. The curriculum here is more advanced than other public schools THATS WHAT MAKES IT A CHARTER. If you refer to children as "ghetto" its all in the way a person raises their child/children or lack there regardless of their skin color. Step back and look in the mirror and ask yourself what do you do, have you done or can do to improve the school system PERIOD. But of course since its PG County I am not surprised at that ignorant label. For all parents who went through the lottery such as we did to try to get a better environment and education as schools elsewhere such Montgomery, Charles and Calvert Counties etc please consider other reviews that actually address your concerns instead of give you labels. Best wishes to you all. CHANGE STARTS WITH US ALL. BE BLESSED!!!! |
