Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier is fantastic. The BBC puts out a list of the 100 best books to read. Definitely worth going through. https://www.facebook.com/notes/angel-rivero-brewrats/bbcs-top-100-books-to-read/10150147182773289 |
I have read most of the above, and all are great books, but I wouldn't call them page turners. I am not sure "literature" and "page turner" can be in the same category. |
East of Eden is my favorite book ever. I made myself read only one chapter a night so it would last longer.
For an interesting literary experience, I'd suggest Moll Flanders in the original and print out a reader's guide to help you with the references and older English. |

I also really loved East of Eden and Rebecca. Another book I loved was Shantaram. |
Personally I think your best bet is in the "genre" ghetto-- great sci fi, fantasy writers. |

I overhead someone in college say they "read at" at Toni Morrison book, they aren't a relaxing read. |
A Prayer for Owen Meany, John Irving

There are some great writers out there right now that write quality literature that is also fun to read. Check out the Women's Prize for Literature, formerly the Orange Prize, for some great ideas.
