With everyone having their own activities and places to go, how old are you kids and how often do you eat dinner at home as a family?

How important is it for you to have dinner time together?

Every night. But, my kids are 7 and 10. Might be different when in HS. It's important to us to have dinner together but we wouldn't make a kid miss his soccer practice just to have dinner together. I guess we are not as involved as some families in various activities. Each kid has 2 activities most of the year.

Kids are 8-12 - every night. Maybe 2-3 times a month it doesn't happen.

Let's say it's just Dad having dinner at the table late after coming home from work late, you have your teens sit with their Father while he eats. It's like 20 min. Everyone talks about their day. Actual consuming of food it not the point.

This about 5xweek.

Kids are 3 and 8.
We eat dinner together all three of us, DH comes in when he can, often in the middle of dinner.

I try very hard to avoid scheduling things at dinner time.

Mine are 3 and 5. We have dinner together on the weekend. On the weekdays my husband gets home around 8 which is too late for their dinner.

We average 5 times a week. Our children are 17 and 15. Family dinner is one of the touch stones in our family and we make an effort. It is what works for us. If we couldn't make dinner work, we would probably have a more formal breakfast routine- so that we would have at least one meal where we sat down together. But that is us. Every family is different and has to figure out where their family time is important.

This is crazy. Don't your kids play sports/dance/music lessons? When I was a kid we had dinner together on Monday night only from age 7 on. I had dance, gymnastics, piano, and archery lessons every other night.

Kids are 9&12, we have dinner together maybe once a week or once every other week.

Should add, Dad is a fireman, so that impacts it too.

Kids are 2 and 4. We have dinner together every night.

I grew up in a family of 5 kids with a large spread in age and lots of activities, and my parents absolutely prioritized family dinners. In practice, that meant we ate late after my siblings returned from activities and my dad from work. I was one of the youngest, so in elementary school, I pretty much ate dinner then went straight to bed. There must have been nights my older siblings missed dinner, but they were few and far between. I remember my sister having to rearrange her work schedule to be home for dinner when in high school.

I really really value having had those dinners, and plan to make family dinners a priority as my kids get older.

Kids are 4 & 7. Every night, unless there's sport practice which is seasonal. Gymnastics is later - after dinner. Games are on weekends during the day so they don't impact dinner.
