Anyone not watch the Oscars?

Anonymous
The last few years we taped it and then sped through all the songs/commercials and got to the places we wanted. This year, we opted out of watching it.

Until last year we lived in LA and since it's still light there, we would go hiking (deserted! Usually the most beautiful time of year there) and to a restaurant (deserted!) for dinner. We usually know someone (slightly) who is up for one for one reason or another so we check for that.

For us, it's a combination of factors. We don't go to a lot of movies and don't follow celeb culture so that takes away much of the excitement for us. It's also a long show. It grates on me for the celebration of superficial looks--that mentality pervades the culture in LA and affects everyday life in a way that I don't think is healthy. I also want to hold off until our DDs are older and not as impressionable.

I am not knocking anyone who loves it; I just think for us, it's not a fit and we've had too much of that culture recently so we tune it out.

Anyone else not watch, and if so, why not?

We don't even record and FF. I pull up the list of winners the next day and might flip through a slideshow of Oscars fashions, but that's it.

I don't watch it. I love going to movies and watch a lot of tv. But in general, I never watch any award shows. After it's happened and I hear what was interesting, I'll go on Youtube or TMZ or whatever to watch the portions that are can't miss. I also never watch the Superbowl or World Series or Olympics.

I couldn't care less.

I stopped watching years ago because I prefer "old Hollywood" aka "real movie stars." Sadly, modern celebrity actors just don't hold my attention anymore.

I'd watch if it was an hour or so, it's just too long to sit and watch the whole thing. I would like to see done if it though, I like Ellen and I'm guessing she will put on a good show. But I'm still outing kids to bed, and then my first priority is the walking dead I will probably flip to it on and off after, but if I dint it's not a big deal. Hubby does not watch and would be annoyed if I kept flipping to it. Do we will probably be in different rooms lol

I don't watch it, but I love seeing what everyone wore. So I just check out the pictures the next day, or in this case, on that other thread.

I'm amazed you could escape them in LA.

I don't watch new movies typically, so I don't watch it. I've never even heard of half of the movies or actors, I imagine. Just not my thing.

nope, and I've only seen one "oscar' movie this year.(have only been to two movies in the theater in the past 12 months, and seen maybe a few on netflix from 2012-2013).

But I think I might watch an old episode of The Wire.

The Oscars honor movies that are "artsy" for Hollywood (like compared to Fast & Furious) but still mainstream and lacking integrity. Just like the Grammys. Yes, I'm a snob.
