How much over the counter makeup do you wear? When do you splurge high end makeup- what kind?

For me: Lip gloss, mascara, eye liner never. High end- Face cream, blush, occasionally lipsticks.

Former model here. I buy everything at the drugstore or Target. There's no need to pay Sephora prices.

I splurge on skincare sometimes (Ahava).

I read somewhere that chanel mascara is amazing. Which one you you use and why? Thanks.

Sephora for all my cosmetic needs. Make up forever- foundation, concealer, mascara. Smash box- foundation, eyebrow pencil. Bobbi brown- under eye concealer. Urban decay- eye liner.

I probably pay more for skincare, since I have breakout-prone skin, so I use Dermologica cleansers, but makeup is a mixed bag. I haven't bought mascara or undereye moisturizer in forever--I use the never-ending samples from Nordstrom and Sephora. I use Aveeno's tinted moisturizer from the drugstore. Powder foundation--Jane Iredale. Blush--NARS for more color, Neutrogena Sheer Highlighting Blush for less. Lip gloss--Fresh Sugar Lip Treatment or Smith's Rose Balm. Eyeshadow--Stila. Eyeliner--Sephora or Urban Decay.

I actually splurge on this custom tinted foundation (Elizabeth Arden at Red Door Salon) because i had a coupon for it once, and loved it. The bottle lasts a long time so I don't feel too guilty.

I'm French, and love Chanel and Dior make-up, and Dr. Hauschka for skincare. Good quality makes all the difference.
Make-up chemicals are not regulated in the US, and I prefer to trust French brands.

I mostly wear MAC--foundation, concealer, powder, blush, eyeshadow, eyeliner, lipstick...

I use Smashbox photo finish primer

I go cheap on mascara--Covergirl Clump Crusher is my favorite.

I don't wear makeup every day. In general I only buy make up about once a year. I go in and have them do a make over at the MAC counter and buy all the products I listed above...Generally I'll spend somewhere between $250-$300 on that visit.

The mascara I buy every 3 months or so, the primer maybe twice a year.

So altogether, I'm spending less than $400/year on makeup.

I'm a big fan of Laura Mercier and Mac.

Lipstick I tend to go cheap on because I change colors and kinds constantly so having 10 expensive lip colors at a time is not going to fit into my budget.

I used drugstore cosmetics for years because I couldn't afford more expensive ones. I have oily, breakout-prone skin so cheaper cosmetics gave me very mixed results. When I finally got a decent-paying job I started buying everything at Sephora and honestly my skin has improved dramatically (hard to say what main reason is, but I suspect it's a combination of using better skincare products, plus better makeup).

At this point, I'd never use drugstore foundation again (though I had ok luck with some of the oil-free ones from L'Oreal). Also am a big fan of Lancome and Estee Lauder mascaras so wouldn't switch to something cheaper there either. Blush is not important for me so I'd be willing to buy cheaper versions. Eyeshadow I could go either way, though prefer nicer brands like Urban Decay.

In my experience, better cosmetics tend to last longer so even if I shell out more $ at the outset, I don't have to buy new products all that often.
