| Am currently interviewing for a new job. However, I have a two week family commitment in May, that unfortunately can't be rescheduled. When should I tell them? After the offer or before? |
| After. |
| Absolutely AFTER. |
| Before |
Why? That's stupid. |
| Personally I'd do it before but that's because I"m a chicken and get nervous and I would be too afraid to tell them after. Plus I'd probably think I had a target on my back for the rest of my employment there...like I'd already pissed them off once so they'd be looking for reasons to ding me. But again, I"m self conscious and a worrier so that's just me. |
| Don't do it until first offer is on table. If you're then going to negotiate for different terms (are you asking for more vacation?) then that's your counteroffer. Employer can then say it won't work for them. |
| I had a similar issue, and told them after they gave me the offer but before accepting it. My new manager was happy to accommodate me. |
| After. Maybe offer to take those two weeks as leave without pay. |
|
Thanks, everyone. I should have mentioned I'd be more than happy to take the two weeks' leave unpaid. Thanks again.

I've been a recruiter and a hiring manager. This really isn't a big deal and is not uncommon. Do NOT tell before offer, though. After offer, they're already in love with you. |
| Thank you, 18:41. |
