I'm taking a day trip for business and between flights, lunch, and the presentation I'm giving, I"m having a hard time carving out time for pumping. I do have a stash so not making quota is ok but how far have you ladies spaced pumps without being uncomfortable to the point of distraction?
Suggestions? I am taking the double electric and hand in case i need to pump in the cabs. |
Sounds crazy. Reconsider your priorities. |
It's Sunday. Pray. |
I think it depends on the woman. I know I could go four or five hours if I absolutely had to, but that would mean risking clogged ducts. I think ten minutes of pumping more frequently is preferable to waiting for a longer break.
Don't pump in cabs! The restroom is better than in a cab. |
I tried to stretch to 4-5 hours at that age, but inevitably ended my trips with painful boobs that took a day or two home with baby to fix. I think pp is right. Try to pump more frequently for shorter periods of time. And bring that milk home! |
thanks guys. Most of you were helpful. I think 4 hours is the longest I"ll have to go if all goes well. |
How frequently do you pump at work now and how engorged do you feel when you pump? 4 hours should probably be ok. I could go every four hours at 3 mos without terrible pain or leaking. Leaking would be my biggest concern when traveling- don't want to soil your (few) clothes! |
Seven hours at night with no problems. You should be able to go as long as you can between feedings at home with your LO so if they're sleeping through the night you should be able to go that long. |
Not at that point yet, but I've worked with many women who used a hand pump just to reduce the worst of the fullness between meetings (like a bathroom break) for long days. I tend to be able to go about 6 hours at night before getting really uncomfortable and leaking, but that's while lying on my back. |
Hmm, like others have said it must depend on the woman, because my DS is 5.5 months and my pumping routine is normally to go 4/5 hours between pumps. I start to feel more full, but not uncomortable, and I've never had clogged ducts.
So I think you just need to listen to your body. |
