Recycling bin woes

Anonymous
The recycling pick up workers keep leaving my recycling receptacle in the middle of my driveway so that I can't pull in/out. Why would they do this and what can I do about it?

I'm going to go out on a limb and say you should move it so you can pull in. If you're suggesting that you should complain to their bosses, don't do that. JUST MOVE IT!!!

No, please, complain loudly and bitterly. Then write back and let us know what happens.

OP, can't you move your own recycling bin back up to your house?

Obviously I know I should move it, but I don't understand why they leave it smack dab in the middle of my driveway entrance when there is plenty of space around the driveway. I live on a busy street in DC where there is no room to pull off. If I can't pull right into my driveway, I have to drive to another street where I can pull off the road, park my car, get out and walk to my house to move the bin, then walk back to my car and go around the block to get back to my now unblocked driveway. Can you now see why this is a bit of an issue for me week after week? It seems like they should know not to leave it blocking a driveway. I never have this problem with my garbage can - only the recycling.

OMG. Do you really think this is what I'm complaining about? Do you really think I would expect the sanitation workers to do this? Use common sense, PP.

LMOA @ OP saying the PP should "use common sense."

Just drive over it in your Range Rover.

Yes.

That is what it sounds like you are complaining about. If they leave it in your driveway, just place the can farther down your property away from the driveway when you bring it to the curb. Problem solved.

Move the bins away from your driveway.

I get your point OP. Both garbage and recycle workers seem to derive pleasure in blocking the driveway. No matter where we put ours, they almost always leave it in the middle of the entrance to the driveway.

Unclear on the concept?

Ha! I wish. My old Honda sedan probably couldn't stand up to the recycling bin.

I used to live on a very busy road and dreaded coming home recycle and trash day. I was nearly rear ended as I tried to pull into my driveway the first time and there were 2 cans and a recycle bin blocking my entry. I ended up pushing into them to save an accident. Couldn't see them initially due to neighbors bushes. After that I would pull into neighbors driveway, walk to my house, move them if necessary and then get back to my car and then go home. It's a frickin hassle, potentially dangerous and it sounds like those responding live on quieter streets.

What I ended up doing: Sent a note to the county division that handles trash and recycling - provided my address and asked that they just leave the cans and bins in the same area that I put them in. Problem solved. Never happened again.

Thank you, PP. This is exactly my situation every week. Sounds like you found a solution - I'll give it a shot.
