Acupucturists for infertility in Arlington/Falls Church/McLean?

Anonymous
Hello - I am starting my first IUI cycle in January and was hoping to find an acupuncturist that specializes in infertility. I know that SG has a new center called Pulling Down the Moon, but wondered if anyone knew of places in Arlington/FC/McLean?

thanks!

Hi,
I see an acupuncturist who also works for Pulling Down the Moon a few days a week and she doesn't speak highly of them. She feels their objective is just to get as many patients in and out as possible and aren't as concerned about the patients as their bottom line. So I wouldn't go there, but I haven't been there personally, so maybe its not so bad.

Hi,

I live in Vienna and am also thinking of doing some acupuncture sessions while TTC our # 2. I'll try the 11:36 recommendation. Any other reccomendations are welcome.

Also, how much does a session usually cost? I have BlueCross/BlueShield; is this something usually covered by insurance? Sorry, I'm new to this. Thanks.

I go to Pulling Down the Moon. I didn't have any negative experiences there..so far. But I'm curious to know about your acupuncturists information regarding PDtM. Can you say what she is basing her opinion on - some examples?

I am an acupuncturist working in Ashburn, VA. I have helped several women this year through IVF and IUI. I have only had two patients this year whose acupuncture is being covered by insurance and neither of them are BCBS. In general BCBS has been one of the more difficult insurances for my patients to get coverage with. If you are finding the rates to unaffordable there are sometimes other options available. For example at my office we put together group session treatments. You can join up with another group or you can form you own and instead of paying $90/ hr you each pay $25. Good luck. Hope that helps.

i went to dr arthur fang in Mclean/tysons area -- i have bcbs and had EXCELLENT coverage (i tink there was like a $500 deductible but after that they covered 80%). he has had some success with fertility issues although and this point that's not all he does. i really liked him... in the end, not sure it was really doing anything for me and the stress of scheduling time to see him twice a week got to me!

Laura Berkebile practices at the Teal Center near the Ballston metro in Arlington and specializes in acupuncture for women's health and fertility - both for natural conception and ART / IUI / IVF. She's a terrific acupuncturist, and it's really clear how much she cares for her fertility patients and enjoys working with them.

I too am trying acupuncture. I'm seeing Arthur Fan, I talked to both Nancy Miller and Kate Quinn but only Fan talked about his success rate and seemed to have the most experience with fertility. However, Fan gave me a lot of herbs, which my IVF doctor does not want me to take. Hope this is helpful and best of luck to you.

Women's Health and Fertility
In addition to caring for a wide variety of patients, Laura's practice has an emphasis on women's health, with a focus on pregnancy and fertility-related issues. Acupuncture can help to relieve morning sickness, insomnia, fatigue, pain during labor, and postpartum depression, as well as many other disorders. Acupuncture can also improve the IVF success rate and prevent habitual miscarriage or difficulty conceiving. Laura has helped many women avoid medical induction for babies who have gone past their due-date, by inducing them with acupuncture. Post-natal recuperation, as well as weight loss, can also be addressed with acupuncture and prescribed herbal formulas.

Forgot to say that Fan has a special where you pay $598 and get twice a week sessions plus herbs (although I can't take those) for a complete period cycle, which is four weeks. My insurance doesn't cover it but my FSA does.

I just wanted to add my comments on Njemile Carol Jones in Alexandria and discourage anyone from seeing her. I was a patient of hers until recently and would NOT recommend her.

There have been several negative posts elsewhere on this forum, from myself and others, so I won't repeat it all, but definitely stick with one of the other, recommended acupuncturists on this board. She works independently and for Pulling Down the Moon.

I really did not like this doctor:
http://www.trendcare.com/

He advertises how much he knows about fertility issues, yet didn't even know the difference between IVF and IUIs. And he hurt.
