We had FIOS put in a few years ago. I asked them not to cut the landline but they did. Standard procedure. They promise several hours of phone use in event of a power outage, but this is a BIG lie. Nothing.
Who, if anyone, can we call to get it reconnected. Thanks. |
I've never heard of it getting reconnected-- AFAIK verizon doesn't want to, they only provide copper line service because they have to (and no one else has to).
They called me and told me I could have "next generation technology" and I told them if they cut my copper line I would drop my landline instantly. |
Why on earth do they cut a landline? Doesn't fios provide land line service? |
Nope.
They are planning on removing all copper lines. |
by "landline" OP means a traditional copper line, where the line carries enough electricity to work. FIOS offers a "landline" where the phone service is (I think) provided over a fiber optic cable with a router that requires an external electric power source to work. In a power outage a copper line will continue to work while a FIOS line will eventually go dead. |
No. The removal of the copper landline is permanent. Verizon wants to eventually do away with them, so getting FIOS means goodbye to it. |
This is what I'm telling you, you don't get any phone service in a power outage. Nada! Even within seconds of a power outage. It's dangerous b/c if a cell phone isn't charged or easily accessible, you are screwed if you have to call 911. |
I think that the foist line does technically work for a few hours after an outage, as long as the backup battery hasn't died. The problem is that you need a corded phone I.e. Phone that doesn't need electricity to work. If you're trying to use a cordless phone it won't work even if the phone battery is fully charged. |
You need to call them to look at your box. Ours lasts for awhile after the power goes out. Something is wrong with yours. |
you can spring for a 200 dollar generator after the fios line backup battery finishes after 1 day? |
Get a car charger for your cell phone. |
Yes, we have a corded phone. |
It's an 8 hour battery backup following an outage. The battery in the Fios box does need to be replaced occasionally. When ours went out it beeped. There is also a light display on the box. |
I hate that we can't use the land line phones during a power outage with fiber. Our fios backup only lasts a few hours. During the durecho a few summers ago we lost power for over a week and the cell towers around our house were damaged so we couldn't even get cell connection. Made me very nervous not to be able to call 911 in an emergency. |
