One Thing I'll Miss About America

Anonymous
I'm Nigerian American. I came to the United States as a young child and have lived here most of my life.

One day, I'd hope to return to my country and do what I can to contribute to its growth.

Yet, as a weird as this will sound--I will miss one thing about the United States: white people. Although white people do occasionally frustrate me, there are many things about them that I secretly admire. And they fascinate me. But, I'd never openly admit any of this to them.

Yes, I realize that there are white people in Nigeria, but very few. I guess I'll have to enjoy it--their company--now when I still can.

I'm white and feel SO DIFFERENT from so many other white people (and view us - the white people - as being so VERY varied) that it's hard to imagine how you might be lumping us all together.

I'm dying to know what, exactly, OP finds so fascinating about white people.

How so?

Why do you feel different?

lol I think I would too.

Really? Only white americans? I would think that an African American would have more in common with a white American than with a Nigerian.

With all due respect OP, Nigeria as a country treated me horribly. I was robbed at the airport, mugged on my second day in the country (with bruises and a bloody nose), had my ATM card taken from an ostensible country colleague, and was beaten down by the bullshit policies that stole donor aid to line the pockets of the shitty people.

I consider myself a reasonable person. We all have stereotypes. I make it a point to make sure I approach people from a place of curiosity, and check my stereotypes at the door. Basically, I try not to see what I am looking for. But with Nigerians, I struggle.

That is all.

I gave all my money to a Nigerian prince who emailed me and wanted my bank account number.
