I was at the Potomac, MD location today and was shocked at the minimal inventory/selection. Are they going out of business? A victim of the ailing economy's toy industry? I loved the store when it was Toys etc. and felt like its selection suffered a little when Tree Top took over. Now I'm truly bummed to see my local non-Toys R Us toys store not doing so well...

I heard that sales for all 3 independent toy stores in the area (TTT, Child's Play, Toy Kingdom) are down ~20% compared to last year.
I agree with you - I thought it was a nice toy store when it was Toys etc. but haven't been as impressed since Tree Top took it over. Side note - I am buying less this holiday season, but what I am buying seems to mainly come from Toy Kingdom. I love those independent toy stores and want them to survive this holiday season! |
| I love Tree Top. I hope they stay around for awhile. |
| I've been hearing this from various industries, not just toy stores. People are buying less, so they aren't keeping as much in stock. They are selling off what they have to raise money to order more, as opposed to buying on credit and then paying off as they make the sales. You will see this more and more often I believe. |
| I went to the Spring Valley clothing store two weekends ago and the racks were practically empty. There was no Christmas clothing at all. I wondered also if there are going our of business. |
| Is this the same store that's in Wildwood? If so, well stocked. |
| A brand new Tree Top Toys just opened in Chevy Chase Pavilion. But it's empty (of customers) every time I pass by. |

They had huge sales a few weeks ago - twenty percent off EVERYTHING in the store, plus you could use a Care for Kids card to get an additional twenty percent off. I couldn't believe it and rushed over there to buy Christmas gifts. I'm sure that the sale helped to empty their racks - but I can't imagine them making much of a profit on it.

| Oh Gosh ..I hope that they hang in there. I just bought gift cards from there for a birthday party!!! |

OP here...I've seen how empty their shelves get after the 20% off sale, but if I'm not mistaken the sale was 2 months ago. I figured by now they would have restocked for the holidays. I'll definitely be crossing my fingers that they stay in business (and get more toys soon--I want to use my 20% off coupon and Tree Top Toys bonus dollars for Christmas!)

What? There is no store in Spring Valley. Do you mean the Sutton Place/Wesley Heights Store? Indeed, the clothing store for TTT was less than full. |
Yes, she is referring to the New Mexico Ave. store. Spring Valley/Wesley Heights - same thing. |
| The people who work at TTT in Wildwood are idiots! They stand around talking with each other while I was standing waiting to ask a question. |
Just because they were talking to each other to pass time during the day while being at work, which we have all done, doesn't mean their idiots. This is a terrible genalization to make about people because they weren't aware you wanted to ask a question. I hope people take these kind of statements about a buisness with a grain of salt. It's unfair. These forums reach masses of people all the time. The people at Tree Top could easily have been on target 98 percent of the day with answer questions, but because you feel slighted you post a message about them being idiots. Lots of people read this, and I hope you don't ever have a buisness of your own and find your name on annonymous sights. |

Thanks to the last poster there about the wildwood location our fallen sister.
RIP - Bethesda I say that because I work for a TTK not TTT, Who came up with that one? Anyway, if we can't get to you or help you for any reason 99% of the time its because we don't have enough staff to help you now a days due to cutting back hours to save money. its better then laying people off huh? We don't know if were going under or not to be frank. We closed our Chevy Chase store today due solely to lack of business. The others were for a few basic reasons: too close to another store, rent was too high, people returned more then they bought... Were trying our best and trying to stay in business so if you could TAKE YOUR RETURNS BACK TO TARGET OR REGIFT! and don’t ask us if were going out of business... its really insulting after 10 million times and WE DONT KNOW! thanks! |
