Tieks & Plantar Fasciitis

Anonymous
I get plantar fasciitis on and off, and right now I'm it's on. Since having kids I can no longer run around in heels like I used to, so I tend to wear flats or at least wedges or more cushioned heels. I want a pair of flats that work for every day, and I'm thinking some camel-colored Tieks might work for casual, running around sort of shoes. I walk a lot -- to the grocery store, to drop my kids off and pick them up from daycare -- generally about 5-7 miles a day, sometimes more. So I want something I can walk a lot in. I am worried that Tieks would aggravate my plantar fasciitis, however, since the soles are so flexible. But they do look very comfortable and simple enough to work with jeans or shorts or a skirt or sundress. Before I shell out $200 for a pair, can anyone tell me about their level of comfort, especially if you have plantar fasciitis? Also, I have wide feet and very low, almost flat-footed arches. TIA.

I can not wear any flats - tried them all and ended up with pain. I need an inch of heels.

Orthaheel sandals are great for PF. For running errands, I wear any sneakers (usually sketchers or NB) with my custom made orthotics in them. I have yet to find work shoes that can fit my dressy orthotics or are supportive enough for PF.

I just tried on earth shoe work shoes and they were pretty good. Second the vote for orthaheels. Wear them everyday in the house.

Next to heels, I think Tieks would be the worst plantar fasciitis. You need something that's less flexible.

I have had PF and I agree: you need more support.

You can find some good recommendations here, OP:

OP, as someone with feet prone to pain, I agree with PP's: I don't think ANY flats would provide good enough support for someone with PF. You're trying to fool yourself that if they're good quality, they will work. But no. I get it; it's hard to balance the yearning to look good with the necessity of being pain free.

I found mephistos great for PF.

I have plantar fasciitis, and also have some Tieks. I would not recommend them, as they just don't provide much support at all. I wear AGL flats that fit like a glove. Pricey, but the fit is amazing. Try them on at Nordstrom to see how you like them.

If you'll ask a podiatrist he will tell you hell NO Tieks. But my podiatrist told me to wear orthotics that after 4 months of fighting them I decided their not for me. I learned that I am the one who should decide what is the good treatment or shoe for me and if you are not new to plantar fasciitis you already know what makes it worse.
My treatment was taping. Try it.

I had chronic pf and walk a ton. Chacos were the one shoe that was comfy with my pf.

I had the same question about how they's work for PF b/c I've had it chronically for over 20 years. Orthaheels are the BEST!!! They are also know as Vionic, FYI. I wear their flip flops all year round! Earth Shoes didn't work for me b/c they put you in a negative heel which puts more pressure on your heel and can therefore aggravate your PF symptoms. They do have a good arch, however. I've tried many different orthotics including custom made ones. I just happened upon a branad called arch mobility...they have great arch support and a gel cushion in the heel which I haven't found in other arch supposrts. I bought 3-4 pair so they can just stay in the shoes I wear most frequently!

Podiatrist told me that shoes should not be able to bend in half. Also, flats are horrible for people w plantar fasciitis.

Don't get them.

I have normal regular feet and they bother my arches if I wear them all day.
