Question about government shutdown and paycheck

Anonymous
If the government shuts down on October 1, what exactly will happen with DH's paycheck? Will his paycheck arrive several days late, or will it be on time but for a smaller amount?

I realize that the shutdown could be implemented in various ways, but how did it work last time?

No paycheck, unless essential employee. May get backpay when the gov't resumes business.

No paycheck. He will have to try and sell his ass on K street.

Oct 1 is actually a payday for feds, for work performed this week and last week. I don't remember what happened last time exactly, but I am pretty sure the payroll info. is all transmitted to the bank the day before, so I would guess that you would get paid for that day.

I am not sure when you would get paid for the rest of September (9/22-9/30).

You'll get paid for those days but probably not during th shut down. The WaPo said even if yu are essential, you might not get paid until the govt comes back and then you'll get back pay.

I'm not essential and I don't expect to get back pay. I wouldn't expect it if I were you in this environment. But don't worry, you'll still have your bills due.

They should pass a law to suspend bills and mortgages etc.. for those contractors and government workers affected by the shutdown

they can't pass any law, let alone this one which the banks would overwhelmingly challenge.

it's a nice FU to civilians (and the American public who relies on us) by congress. that's really all it is.

call your members, but it probably won't do anything

There actually is some protection for active duty military. IIRC they can't be sued for unpaid bills/mortgages, and they are entitled to lower interest rates on some debt?

We are halting any non-essential purchases and I'm looking for pay you to donate blood/plasma/platelets. Do they even do that anymore?

usually this is only for deployed personnel (your interest rates can't go up, for example, when you're deployed...in fact, they are required to be lowered if your rates are high).

However, active duty military will get paid during a shut down.
congress isn't that stupid. next to old people and rich people, they don't want to piss off military officers (enlisted have no political power).
