Smooth philtrum but not FAS?

Anonymous
My baby has one and so does my MIL, so I am guessing it is inherited. Really freaks me out, however, because I did not find out I was pregnant until about a month in, and drank during that time. Anyone else have a smooth philtrum and not have any other issues?

Does your MIL have issues?

Well, not FAS issues. No, she does not have any health issues and I know her mother did not drink, at all.

I had to google it just to know what a philtrum was.

Deep breath. Ask at your next peds appt and see what they say. It CAN be a symptom but not always. Don't stress

A month into pregnancy is technically only two weeks post conception. Half the people in the world seem to been conceived after a drunken binge!!!! Doubtful that would have caused you any issues.

My daughter has a a flat one. I did not drink during pregnancy. It is heriditary. My sister in law and her son have the same upper lip.

OP, I wouldn't worry too much. My friend's (adopted) son has FAS, and the smooth philtrum. His birth mother was drinking 4-6 drinks a day, the entire pregnancy. Most studies I've seen indicate to takes regular drinking to cause problems. Not just drinking-before-I-knew-I-was-pregnant kind of drinking.

Could have gotten it from an alcohol loving father. It's epigenetics
