NPR polled it's listeners for their favorite children's books. Here's the list:
http://www.npr.org/2013/08/05/207953619/100-must-reads-for-kids-9-14-the-printable-list Many of my favorites are on it. |
I wish it was broken down in smaller age groups. My 13 year old isn't interested in reading books from the section that 9 year olds read from. |
Thank you, great list.
My son would have a hard time with the more descriptive classics, since he's addicted to action a la Harry Potter, but still... maybe I can persuade him ![]() And to PP, I think it's sad that your teen would look at age groups in this way. A good book is a good book. |
Roll of thunder hear my cry is my favorite childhood book. I still have my copy from when I was young. |
My side of the mountain would be a good book for a 13 yo I think. |
Great list. I agree with the Pp who mentioned the difference in plot pacing between the "older" children's classics and the more current ones like HP and Percy Jackson - it is a shame bc I think a lot of great children's books are not being read as much. |
My DD age ten has read...
HP, LOTR, Unfortunate Events, Jessica Day George.... Best idea that we've had take them to the library. |
Try the Gregor series, if your son likes Harry Potter. It's great stuff. |
