Keeping ballet shoes tied

Anonymous
What am I doing wrong?? My daughter's ballet slippers won't stay tied - does anyone have a trick that works? TIA!

tie them, duct tape the laces inside the top of the shoe They have us do this for recitals for the littles and it works

Do you mean the drawstrings or the elastics?

Drawstrings: tie them in a knot, not a bow--they shouldn't need to be adjusted, and if they do, you can untie the know. I've never needed to tape them in place after that, but nothing wrong with it.

Long time parent with dancing daughter. Put on new slippers, yank elastic to tighten, tie in a square knot - at least I think that is what it is called. You make the first part of when you tie shoe laces, then do it again going the opposite direction. Then your knot won't come undone.

Snip long ends to about 1/2 - 3/4 inch and have them tuck under if poking out after putting on shoes.

Good advice, but careful with "yanking" the elastic. If the elastic is tied too tight, it can put excess pressure on the achilles tendon. I would recommend putting your thumb back by the heel when you pull the elastic, to make sure that it doesn't get too tight. This comes in handy especially when their feet start growing...

Yes, that is very true. I figured people would know not to "yank" too hard. The Achilles issue tends to be more of an issue with pointe shoes and elastic - something PP probably isn't familar with yet.
