Hyper-aware sense of smell as part of PMS?

Anonymous
Does anyone else experience a sensitive sense of smell as part of PMS? I am struggling over here. Walked into a pizza place yesterday and the pepperoni scent was positively knock-out inducing!

Are you sure you're not pregnant?

+1. Take a pregnancy test.

Np here. My period returned 5 months ago and i resumed birth control pills. 1 week before i get my period, I'm hyper sensitive to smell, sensitive nipples, and have an unsettled stomach in the early morning. Freaked me the eff out the first month and i was convinced i was pregnant. Apparently these (plus beinga overly emotional) are my new PMS symptoms. Never had them before. Ob said it was normal as some people's hormones are permanently changed after pregnancy.

OP here. My experience post kids is same as PPs. I am a day late but it is very unlikely I am preggo. I am not on the pill though so I may test if I become 4 or more days late.

Do test. For me the super hero sense of smell was the first sympton of pregnancy.

Ditto.

I couldn't even use my regular body wash, I had to go get a bar of unscented soap. Any artificial smells made me queasy, and so did two-thirds of natural smells. Ugh.

I frequently get migraine symptoms before my period including strong reactions to light, smell, and taste, and a hyperactive gag reflex. Sometimes they come with other migraine symptoms like visual disturbances and headaches, but the combination isn't always the same (e.g. I might just react to smells and tastes one month, and the next month have visual disturbance and light sensitivity).

This has been true since I was a teen, including periods where there was absolutely no way, barring a second coming, that I was pregnant.
