How do you know if you ovulate after ovidrel shot at SGF?

Anonymous
They only do D3 and D12 ultrasound and blood work, ovidrel on D12, iui on D14. I have had positive OPk results since D12 evening (2hours after the ovidrel shot), but I also heard that ovidrel may affect OPk results, so I can't tell if I ovulate based on the OPk results. I know some clinics do us and bloodwork after iui to see if one ovulates.

I believe that most everyone ovulates within about 36 hours of the trigger shot. It's the whole point of the trigger, which is also why after you take the shot your OPKs will be positive quite quickly.

OPKs are sensitive to HCG, which is presumably what you are triggering with. AS PP said, it's most likely you will ovulate at around the 36 hour mark. This is how they plan for all IVF retrievals.

My nurse said that one usually ovulates 38-40 hours after the trigger shot (Shady Grove's website also says that), so my iui was scheduled 38 hours after the shot. Hope the timing was not too bad.

I would put aside the OPKs. They aren't meant to work with hormone injections.

At most clinics they will test your progesterone the week after an IUI to make sure you did indeed ovulate.

I had the same question OP and I just had to trust it worked - no way to know since I've had 2 failed IUIs.

If you are temping, please note that my temp rise was 3 days after the first IUI and I stopped temping on the 2nd one because my temps were all over the place into the 2nd month. I read on other boards that this temp rise delay is common, but you should do your own research.

Unfortunately at Shady Grove, they only do a pregnancy test on the 15th day after iui. My first iui failed but I don't know what caused the failure, as everything seemed to be normal for me and my DH.

I've had 1 failed iui and my BBT rose the next day after the iui. If I do ovulate after the trigger shot, we might have problems in egg sperm interaction as everything else seems normal. I heard in this case ivf would be a better choice, so probably I should switch to ivf if my 2nd iui doesn't work.

IUIs only have a success rate of around 15% with everything working perfectly.

Blood test to confirm ovulation at CFA--if I remember correctly.

IUI's have 15% success rate and ttc on your own has a 20% chance each month if all is normal....why bother with IUI?

OP--I'm a lesbian who did plenty of IUIs. I never did any post-IUI bloodwork or u/s to see if ovulation happened. Trust me, it happened. The trigger shot works. If this IUI doesn't work, and you still want assurances, then start taking your temp when you wake up but before getting out of bed. Get a basal body thermometer. I did that and could track that ovulation happened based on my temp rising.

As others have said, put the OPKs down. They are useless once you've had the trigger shot.

Good luck!

Really? Couples without infertility may have a 20% chance every cycle. Generally you wouldn't be doing IUI if you didn't have infertility issues. My per-cycle success rate is 0% without all the meds leading up to IUI, for example.

OP here
I am on clomid iui. My re said that clomid will bring me more mature follicles and thus increase the chance. He seems to be more conservative than I am. Also, it seems that SG uses the same protocols for everyone...

Because if you had a 20% chance on your own, you wouldn't be at the RE. IUIs typically aim to bring IF couple to where normal couples would be TTC on their own, so 15-20% depending on who you ask. Some REs say higher, some say lower, but that is the average. Everything can be perfect, and there is a very good chance it just won't work.
