What does "gently pasteurized" mean?

Anonymous
I'm avoiding all unpasteurized dairy and some non dairy while pregnant. A bottle of Naked juice reads "gently pasteurized." What does this mean - is it semi-pasteurized?

It's flash pasteurization. Essentially, the juice goes from cold to 165 degrees to cold again in less than 60 seconds. This keeps nutrients, etc., intact in juice.

Juice really doesn't need to be pasteurized as long as it's fresh (just like an orange doesn't need to be pasteurized). But pasteurization removes some micro-organisms (and yeast) and gives a longer shelf life.

For milk, I think that means it's pasteurized at 160 degrees - the lowest temp that will effectively kill the bacteria.

OP - thanks, PPs! Very helpful.

Just FYI OP, there's a pending class action lawsuit against Naked brand Juices, their parent company Pepsi for false advertising on the "naturalness" of their juices. From using questionable ingredients to false advertising. Will post link when I find it.

OP here - thanks for the heads up. I'll check it out on Google, too.
