THis is bollocks about "the Islamic correct custom". There is no one Islamic custom to celebrate birth, either of a boy or of a girl. In my DH's culture, the custom is to give a big chunk of money to charity and the amount is completely up to the parents. Other cultures do other things. Nothing to do with Islam. |
Islam in Africa is big in the business also. "I abducted your girls. I will sell them in the market, by Allah," a man claiming to be Boko Haram leader Abubakar Shekau said in a video first obtained by Agence France-Presse. "There is a market for selling humans. Allah says I should sell. He commands me to sell. I will sell women. I sell women," he continued, according to a CNN translation from the local Hausa language. |
Oh God, don't tell me our DCUM band of islamophobes are starting again. |
Pretty sure the handful of people you were arguing with, of whom I'm one, don't think this is representative of all of Muslims today. Our arguments, my friend, had to do with clarifying Islamic laws about things like women's rights. |
Well, actually, it's the DCUM cadre of dawwah-wallahs starting it again, like this: "What do you mean by second? Men and women in any aspect are equal but different. People fail to realize this fact. There are many things men cannot do that women can and vice versa. What is your religion? Allah gave women rights 1436 years ago when they were previously being bought and sold and buried alive, in other parts of the world their existence was often questioned and put down time and time again. No other religion but Islam holds our women with higher regard in the entire world, do your research. Yes, that's how Allah made us, men as the providers, protectors, and women the housekeepers, etc. This concept just changed within about 50-60 years in this country. Watch this... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uvto1aEI_jc&spfreload=10" No worries, I know that wasn't you, this has a new immigrant written all over it - poor English, immune to logic, using completely nonsensical turns of speech - "their existence was often questioned" - like what, people doubted there were women out there? This person doesn't even deserve an ounce of my mocking energy, his or her stupidity is obvious enough to seal their fate. |
Different PP. Guessing we have a few new immigrants to these threads. The poster above who is making generalizations based on Boko Haram. And the new dawwah-wallah, who I agree has bad English and suspect is the same poster who posted about Muslim men sleeping with western women and how we shouldn't listen to the Shias or Sufis. No need for any of us to get involved. If we give these two enough rope, they'll hang themselves. |
So it's his English you think doesn't deserve an ounce of your mockery. |
Would it kill you to focus on the pp's point rather than mocking him for his English? More people here probably understood his point than understood the use of dawah wallah, a Pakistani or Indian term, but no one mocked you. |
Women only need protection... from men. |
Wait. Did you just use an arabic term now on DCUM? You must be the same who used the term, dawah wallah. Do you realize you alienate readership by using words very few nonMuslims know? You don't sound smart, you sound disconnected from your audience. That pp iscorrect also. If a program is going to show Muslims, its a bit strange to show people who may not even practice Islam. |
PP's points have been hashed and rehashed here. It cannot be independently verified that women were worse off pre-Islam than post-Islam. The assertion that Islam holds women in higher regard than any other religion--honestly? Then the whole bit that Islam views men and women as equal...but different so they really don't have equal rights, at least to those who engage in what another PP has called linear Western thinking. As another PP has put it we really shouldn't bother ourselves, and I'm finding it ridiculous that I've even written this. |
I haven't seen this program, but in fact in all parts of the world many, many people with a religious affiliation practice it quite lightly. As children they get some sort of religious education. As adults religion is something engaged in at certain life events like birth, marriage, and death and on certain religious holidays. Apart from that, not much. This is true in Christianity, Judaism, and Islam. But these lightly observant individuals still consider themselves Christian, Jewish, or Muslim. I know few Hindus, but all the ones I know are similarly lightly observant. |
Are you new on DCUM? It's frequented by educated women who excel in the use of language and aren't likely to be sympathetic to an argument that "men are protectors and maintainers and women are housekeepers.". Poor English alone would be a legitimate reason for mockery. But I will repeat for you below - in case you need a refresher on the meaning of comma separating descriptions in a sentence: "poor English, immune to logic, using completely nonsensical turns of speech"- see those two things that follow "poor English"? |
I did just use an Arabic term - do you want to change your story to how I am a "person of a minority faith" from an Arabic-language country? It's so sweet of you to care about my relationship with my readership, but I think I have negotiated that successfully so far, so I have no need for your advice on how to connect to them better. Thanks, though. Something tells me YOU understood that term perfectly. Again - who appointed you in charge of deciding who does and does not practice Islam? |
PS: And generally, people who call Shia "non-Muslims" and people who call them "rafidah dogs" come from the same stock so don't pretend they aren't related. Typical Wahhabi BS . |
