APE person won't even let a parent be proud of their 6 year old's art project because it doesn't fit into their talking points. Weird flex.

This is such a a bizarre take. Do you always twist what people say into something unrecognizable? Fox news probably has openings.

To the person who questioned why I would bring up Fox News and APE. I side-eye anyone who appears on FoxNews, and I've seen actual Arlington APE parents being interviewed there.

Well, the opinion of someone who watches Fox News surely convinces me.

This is a stupid argument. One needs to be informed, even about misinformation. So yes, I monitor RWNJ sources. Including APE for the next outrage du jour.

I really don't think being informed about misinformation really requires intentionally tuning in to Fox News to see who appears and hear what they're saying. I certainly don't, but believe I'm pretty aware of a lot of the "alternative facts" and conspiracy theories. I surely know the gist and don't need to watch FOX at all just to hear more details and rants.

I disagree. It’s important to hear the propaganda crazy for yourself instead of being fed X-Twitter bytes by commentators and influencers so that you know what you’re up against and can counter the messaging. The other side does it so well, using our words against us.

I don't do "X" or other "influencer" sources. I read credible news sources, I talk to people, I listen to credible news sources on the radio. I don't need to listen to FOX.

Cool. I do the same. And tune in to Fox. Because of that, I know that APE members have appeared there and on other RW sources. You can't be a "Democrat" and spout RW talking points. Sorry not sorry.

We have to talk about APE because they spend so much energy and hot air disrupting anything public education in Arlington.

Ha ha ha that APE is “disrupting education in Arlington” when they were the ones who wanted it NOT disrupted during Covid.

Anyway, I have no love for APE, but tech in classrooms has gotten waaaay out of hand. I don’t care who the messenger is— we need less tech in ES, and now. In a few years there will be a reckoning where everyone realizes what a mistake it was to overuse the iPads & give a bunch of little kids internet access all day long. But it sucks for our kids in school right now.

So you're an open schools person. Which was/is APE.

It's 2024. Isn't everyone an open schools person? Goodness.

Then stop talking about "learning loss".

My God. APE and their supporters won't stop talking about the pandemic even today, and then gaslights everyone who brings up how awful they were in 2020-21. +1,000%.

"learning loss"

SIX DAYS AGO

(not to mention all of the other political propaganda and misinformation in the newsletter)

I see phrases like "since COVID" and "address learning loss" once each. That's hardly "talking about the pandemic" and most certainly is not harping on school closures during COVID. It is focusing on legitimate identified (by others, not just APE) needs of the past 4 years. I guess you consider it "talking about the pandemic" to mention lasting impacts of the pandemic - impacts that many experts across the country have noted and continue to note?

What "misinformation" is in the newsletter? I don't immediately note any. Or do I have to watch FOX news in order to identify the offensive phrases?

+1

Reading this, I see they are 1) holding an in-person meeting on ed tech 2) providing info about something VDOE is working on (I'll do my own research and won't take APE's word on this 3) provide info on where things stand for APS budget 4) gives a shout out to County and other parent groups for $ for new teen programs.

No one should take APE's word on anything. They are full of crap. In the latest newsletter, they link to this piece of RWNJ fiction:

Progressives have a lot of concerns about the Youngkin admin's new accountability standards for schools. Very in character for APE to be totally on board with Youngkin no questions asked.

TBH I don't trust Younkin on education AT ALL but some progressives are loopy when it comes to education. So that's not telling me much either. Agree with PP who said it's usually the left wing who opts out of SOLs.

The only people talking about 2020-2021 are the anti-APE trolls on this thread. Everyone else is talking about the use of tech in classrooms in 2024.

Your reading comprehension sucks. DP.

Too much screen time.

I accidentally strolled into this thread and am just laughing. 20 pages in and just total ridiculousness. Too many of you, especially APE junkees just sit on DCUM. Total hypocrites on screen time. Like, your children watch you, unless you don't watch them at all. And you want to take away their iPads?! Who will watch them? The teachers you despise and second guess?

If you read the thread a bit more closely I think you'd realize that it's really mostly just normal parents in support of ending the 1:1 devices policy and crazy anti-APE trolls calling those people APE members and accusing them of watching Fox News. It's all really silly. I don't think a single person has posted in support of APE; people have only posted supporting fewer screens and ending 1:1 which, while consistent with an APE position, is also consistent with NYT, AEA, and lots of other recent press.

You know we all read it too right? So we know that's not what it says at all. But of course the parents you agree with are normal and the ones you don't are all crazy anti APE trolls. Sure, that's probably how it looks to your APE brain, but not to the rest of the world.

Either poor reading comprehension or lame gaslighting.

Anonymous wrote:There are assessments such as Dibels in lower elementary. Most of these tests are mandated at the state level, so you need to go talk to Youngkin and the VDOE if you think they over test. The district wide tests measure different things.

It tracks though that APE parents would opt their kids out of tests and then complain about low test scores from minorities and SWDs.

Lort. Last Fall APE went all out on the NAEP and how APS is failing their SWDs and minority students. But when someone admits that they opt out of testing themselves while spouting APE propaganda? Nah. Not today.

I can’t help you if you don’t pay attention.

Why is APE even having “listening sessions” around iPad usage? So they can gather very biased info to show to APS because no one who doesn’t care will waste any evening engaging with them.

+1,000. The only people who take APE seriously are themselves and maybe their parents.

Lol. APE's parents probably boast to their neighbors in their retirement communities. Joan did you see my Toddy is on Fox News?!

I believed there was too much tech in lower ES years before APE said anything. What they said is irrelevant to my beliefs, as my beliefs predate anything they did or did not say.

Aw, come on! That only means you're an APE prototype!
(That's sarcasm, btw. I'm your twin and could have written the exact same statement.)

Fine but not all agree with you and APE tends to focus on the wrong things.
