Forceful throw up before sleep

Anonymous
DS was born a horrible sleeper. Never STTN, hates naps and bed time has always been a fight. He's 13mos and his new trick is to cry until e throws up. I nurse him to sleep and once he's full he cries until he pukes and eventually passes out while sobbing.

Car rides are the worse. We tried turning him around on his first birthday and it got worse now he cries until he pukes and won't fall asleep since he can see us.

What am I doing wrong? We tried rocking, co-sleeping, patting while in his crib. Nothing works. I'm about to go crazy here.

Does he have reflux?

Man. That sounds really hard.

When you nurse him to sleep does he stop nursing himself when he's full? And then start crying? That sounds like some sort of medical issue--I think I might consult a doctor about that.

No reflux. He used to fall asleep on the boob let go when he was deeply asleep. Now he started the throwing up thing =[

I don't know but I think it definitely warrants at least a ped visit and maybe a specialist (but what kind, I don't know.) Habitual things like this aren't all that uncommon in early childhood (I am the parent of a former headbanger) so an experienced ped will probably have good advice on how to manage the episodes. You don't want it to become so engrained that he can't sleep without it. My son's headbanging stopped after he got ear tubes, but he still will hit himself on his forehead with his hand or "headbang" into a couch cushion when he's extremely frustrated - the impulse stuck with him even when the behavior and the underlying cause was addressed. Good luck!

My four-year-old DD does that, it's gotten better now. Your DS is much younger, I wouldn't know how to handle it. We just didn't give DD the attention she wanted when she forced herself to puke (sticking hand down her throat), and made her clean herself up and her bed. It seems harsh, but we got desperate...and it works pretty well. Use to be every day, now once ever couple of weeks.

Our ped ordered a bunch of blood work and we're going to see an ent.

I only wished someone who had been through it would chime in.

Thanks folks.

OP here. I'm so freaking mad!!!! The stupid idiot phlebotomist who draw DC's blood use the wrong vials. We'll have to do the whole thing again.

To add insult to injury he's already on meds and obviously the blood drawn now won't reflect the state he was in a few days ago when he was not on meds. Argh!!!!!

For some reason seems like my IP was blocked. Why is that?

His labs came back ok except for anemia. Doing urine culture now...

Doc thinks he has some hidden infection since he's temperature is higher than average and he has now started throwing up in his sleep.

His ears are OK.

Any insight?
