WHAT is in BonChon chicken??

DH loves the stuff. It has to be pure crap, but I can't find the nutritional info anywhere - I looked on their website and on DWLZ.

Obviously the soy/ garlic is LOADED with salt, but what do you think they use to give it that melty, creamy yet crunchy coating?

corn starch

being deep fried. I can't believe it's very healthy for you.

I had it once. It was okay/tasty. I'd eat it again but I won't go to my grave regretting I didn't get a second chance. We live far away, so to go again would completely hinge on proximity.

Cornstarch, huh? Go figure. That's what gives it that mouthfeel? Good to know, thanks!

It has to be something more than the deep frying. I've had plenty of fried chicken, but it normally doesn't melt in your mouth the way BonChin does.

I agree that it can't be healthy at all. Maybe that is why they don't post nutritional info on the website. They want to get you hooked, so that you don't care about what's in it.

For one thing, the chicken is boneless and mechanically rolled superthin (I peeled off some of the breading and you can see the holes made by the roller). One of the main ingredients is flour (it was stacked up in the hallway on the way to the bathroom), but because the chicken is so thin, the breading to chicken ratio is much different from regular fried chicken. It tastes okay, but it has got to be one of the worst nutritional choices I can imagine.

MSG must be involved too.

That's what I was going to guess as well. Found out that KFC also uses MSG. Migraine sufferers, beware!

That's interesting. I always feel so crappy after I eat MSG. I think I'm just too old. Used to be able to eat it without issue in my 20s!

It's Korean style fried chicken. I love it! I don't think it's any healthier or unhealthier than Southern style. More info here:

It is the most special type of fired chicken. Special beacuse it takes forever to get your food.

Ha! It does take forever. I guess that's a good sign that they make it to order?
