Humidifier Recommendations?

Anonymous
Last year I ended up buying 5 different kinds of humidifiers from the expensive German cool-mist models which stopping working after 4 mos (I was able to return them) to the Holmes brand. What I hate about most of the humidifiers is the constant cleaning--especially the mineral build up. The German models seemed appealing because they were low maintenance but they turned out to be duds.

Any recommendations on models that are worked for you? Now that it is getting cold, the central heat is kicking on at night and it's getting pretty dry in the house.

We have the Ventasonic and we love it. Very low maintenance, but that's because you have to buy replacement filters every few months or so. We got it at Bed, Bath and Beyond and it's been great.

The mineral buildup is because of hard water you are getting from the tap. Try using distilled water.

I've tried Venta-sonic but those are the ones that stopped working....I normally run the humidifers 24/7 in the winter since the air is superdry in our house. Maybe I can try again but replace the cartridges more frequently....I changed it only once last winter. Unfortunately distilled water isn't a great option with the amount of water we go through. I normally have to refill every day.
