That’s what my kid was told as well. The coaches say his soccer IQ is so high he could be coaching. He was usually an attacking mid, but now they want him as a wingback. Now that I see him play there, he is much faster than I thought he was.

At a possession Club- definitely take “wingback” as a high compliment. They are some of the fittest and have to attack and defend.

Wingback

The Wingback is a – by default – more Attacking option in the Fullback or – when you play with three at the back – in the Wingback spot. The reason why the Wingback is called Wingback is because he is tasked with fulfilling the defensive duties of a Fullback and the attacking duties of the winger making the Wingback one of the most tasking roles that exist in Football. If you want to employ this role you want a good Backup for your main player because especially in weeks with several games, fitness can be a major concern.

The wingback role in a possession-based offense is essentially the main outlet on the wing, so it’s pivotal in creating overloads and stretching a defense

My DC’s club has 2 1/2 hours of extra keeper only training (over several days) in addition to the regular field training with the rest of the team. It can be a lot but able to specialize without missing out on any in the field training.

this is exactly what is wrong with most clubs in the area.. its supplemental training when it should incorporated into regular practice time . you almost punish the goalie by saying do your normal practice (which hardly ever involves goalie training ) then stay late for extra work on your position . I guess its fine if you excuse the goalie from team practice to do his/her work with the goalie coach during that time .

Oh the GK’s do get to be in goal during normal practices too. Usually 1/2 of the normal practice involves small sided drills and scrimmages

Anybody know at what age keepers are evaluated at tryouts apart from field players? If a child specializes in goal too early, it would seem to put them at a disadvantage when trying out for a new team since they would have spent less time on the field. At our club, I have only seen field tryouts.

The question is, "What threads are so controversial that they want to bury them?"
