If they serve in the military for a predetermined period they would receive permanent status and a pathway to citizenship.

This is what some in the GOP want. It’s cruel and heartless. If they lose a job, they get deported? No efffing way that flies.

Nothing cruel about it. They are being given the right to work and stay but need to remain free of any criminal record. No automatic right to permanent residence or citizenship unless they serve in the military.

You missed that part about being a public charge. It’s cruel. This plan creates second class citizens and as such will be rejected.

Too bad for them. America appears to be tired of liberal criminal coddling. I know your president is.

I like that. In addition, any who dropped out of high school get a free ride home.

Except they are already home. The only home they know.

They are not LEGALLY here. Are you truly that dense? Do you turn your head at criminal activity?
I bet you lobby for better enforcement of speeding laws on your street.

But they are not citizens, and never should be. They arrived here illegally. No voting privileges. No welfare. No told stamps. No subsidized housing. They need to be self-supporting, and contributing to society.

If they want all the privileges that come with full citizenship, then they have to do it legally - as have millions of legal immigrants. They can return to their native country with their oarents, and apply.

Their choice.

Just proves they should never be citizens. They can be legal residents, but the conditions for them remaining so will be strict. One DUI (conviction) and out they go. They are here by our good graces, and I don't want to put Americans at risk. We have enough drunk drivers as it is.

If there are even jobs.

"Give" their jobs to legal residents? What the hell is this, a communist country? Go out and get a fucking job if you need one. Unemployment is inanely low, she there is no excuse for able bodied Americans to not be employed.

They get a 3-month grace period to find a new job. If after that time they haven't found anything, they can either join the military or leave.

It's surreal the extent to which liberals want to excuse and coddle illegal immigrants. It's very generous of us to allow them to stay in the first place, and we have every right to enact strict requirements,

I have to say I lost sympathy for them when I saw now they acted toward Pelosi. WTH do they think they are, making obnoxious and profanity-laced demands to a member of Congress? These brats need to learn 1) respect and 2) appreciation, or we don't need them here.

I have a friend who is 61 and was laid off 2 years ago. Not everyone can find a job, and it is horrible that an employer hires an illegal before her.

So you think some kid working in a restaurant in LA is taking your friend's job?? What nonsense. There isn't a fixed amount of work in this country. Six percent of dreamers have started their own businesses. One dreamer EMPLOYS nine people and is looking to create more jobs. How many jobs has your friend created? Maybe he or she should ask a dreamer for work.

all immigrants only know one home then they go somewhere else and it becomes their new home. I am an immigrant and I know how this works - it's hard but very doable especially when you have the papers. This is the only country they know" is not an argument for anything.

They have to go back.

Real unemployment (u6 vs u3), is about double the offical rate, around 8%.

No.

I support complete shut down on illegal immigration with no amnesties and excuses for anyone. Otherwise, it will never end.
DACA kids were placed in a horrible position by their stupid illegal aliens parents. They should blame them. DACA deal would not fly in Mexico or in any Americas country, why does it have to be accepted by Americans?

Only 6% started their on business? That's less than half the rate at which Americans start businesses.

And, wow....impressive. One dreamer out of 800,000 started a business that employs nine people. Let's keep that one.

This.

We need to have laws that can be enforced and we need to enforce those laws. To reward people for breaking the law is to encourage more people to do the same, and is also a giant metaphorical slap in the the face to those who followed the rules and came here legally. Yes, this results in an unfortunate situation for those who were brought here by others, but that is necessary in order to ensure respect for the law and the ability to enforce it in the future.

The only rational approach to immigration that I can see is to let more people in legally and institute severe penalties to anyone who employes illegal immigrants. That would reduce the incentive for people to enter the US illegally (or, more commonly, over-stay their visas), while providing the labor that we need.
