Where do wealthy DC folks have weekend homes?

Ha ha ha. No

I'm actually one of the Vineyard/Jackson/Kiawah posters -- but I do know a couple of wealthy people who have big horse farms in Rappahannock County. They tend to live out there and keep a place in DC for when they don't want to make the drive.

Sorry, but it's true. I know first hand. People own country homes near Little Washington. Same people own homes in Nantucket and Palm Beach --- but this is their quick getaway.

We aren't super wealthy but have home in Maine and a ski place near Jackson - just where we like to be.

Hi excuse my ignorance on the Eastern Shore but where exactly on the Eastern Shore do people have homes? We have lived in DC area for a few years now and would like to get a weekend home. According to wikipedia "The counties comprising the Eastern Shore are Caroline, Cecil, Dorchester, Kent, Queen Anne's, Somerset, Talbot, Wicomico, and Worcester counties."
Which of these areas is the best for a weekend home? Thanks!

The truly wealthy folks I know have their own planes and go to the islands.

Turks and Caicos - also a great place to clean money.

Yes -- or, if they like warm weather, Kiawah.

This is hilarious. We are definitely not wealthy and vacation in Maine every year and have also stayed in Kiawah. They don't seem like places wealthy people go. Kiawah in particular was not posh by any means.

Given that it's pretty inexpensive to buy around there, I guess I must be considered "wealthy", even though at my income you DCUM types would call me a "poor".

We're at Kiawah now. But must be a different Kiawah from the one you deride.

I know a number of wealthy Washingtonians with houses in Maine. Mostly in Northeast Harbor and Southwest Harbor. But these are summer houses, not weekend destinations. And most are family homes.

Waterfront real estate is often in the millions. Even up in the 10+ millions for proper estates with dozens to hundreds of acres. Lots of duck hunting and shooting on private preserves.

You do have a range of options but there's plenty of expensive property and plenty of DC money in and around Easton.

Different people do different things. Some people have vacation homes in the mountains. Some at the beach. In the gay community, it's Lost River, WV and Rehobeth.

Not tp get back into the "old money" vs. "new money" debate, but places that wealthy people go are often not what some people think of as "posh." I've heard people describe Pawley's Island as "arrogantly shabby." There really isn't a DC equivalent of the Hamptons, because we don't have the same type of Wall Street/Hedge Fund/Entertainment rich people. Not that there aren't rich people in the DC area, but it's a more muted vibe.

Strange. I'm pretty sure there's only one. It was nice but not fancy. Homes we're pretty modest.

Waterfront real estate may well be but Easton is not on the water.
