The world doesn't need a single hegemon, and Trump more or less ran on a foreign policy platform of ending US military hegemony. And, despite proposing to further bloat our defense spending, that's what he is doing.
History demonstrates that times when there is no single dominant force in the world tend to see more conflict that times without one, but that's what people voted for, I guess. I'm sure they knew what they were doing and will be thrilled with all the outcomes. I'm just a liberal elite born to brown immigrants, so what do I know of "real Americans"? |
LMAO! She's moaning about having to carry German's own weight, trying to rally other EU nations to do the same on their own, to be not completely dependent on the US. If Merkel/Germany take up the reins, the rest of the EU will constantly hold WWI/WWII over her head - these are the same countries that have laws against holocaust denial, their time is spent on worthless posturing and a self congratulatory culture. |
Actually, H would support this and would not consider it a slam. |
Sorry, what? There has constantly been small conflicts since WWII ended, both when USSR was a counter-balancing force against the US, and when the US was the lone dominant force. History is a mixed back the further you go back as well - The rise and fall of the Mongol empire, a singular dominant force in Asia and eastern Europe was characterized by violence and brutality. |
The French are inconsequential in most spheres of influence today. I say this as someone who loves Paris and has spent quite a lot of time there over the years. The Germans are in ascendancy when it comes to Europe. France is militarily inconsequential ......... France was at its zenith as a sphere of influence over the past century during the era of De Gaulle. Macron is an upstart and he will prove as insignificant as most French presidents since De Gaulle. But nothing to beat a Parisienne boulangerie ....... |
You mean the boulangerie whose bakers are Moroccans and Algerians? |
Yes, some are French Moroccans and French Algerians; those countries have a long association with France based on their colonial past. |
| It's Merkel. In the last call President Obama made from the oval before the inauguration, he called her and told her so. |
| Merkel. No question. Not "will be" - Angela Merkel is the leader of the free world now. |
Who will be the new "Leader of the Free World"? That would be you OP ! Or crooked Hillary . |
And as such she should keep importing refugees and Muslims from the ME. Her country sure will be free, from infidels of course |
|
Really? Merkel voted against gay marriage in world where we are fighting extremist ideologies.
Angela Merkel voted against same sex marriage on the snap ballot in Germany yesterday. She said although she wants same-sex couples to have the right to adopt, she believes "the marriage in in Germany's constitution is the marriage between a man and a woman." She said lawmakers are free to vote their conscience and said opposite views must be respected. The measure passed the Bundestag lower house with 393 for, 226 against and 4 abstaining. |
Brilliant political move. |
Strike "free" and the answer is Putin.

Who will be the new "Leader of the Free World"?
Is there any doubt? It will be Nancy Pelosi .......... or maybe Maxine Waters! |
