Anyone else watching True Detective?

Except for the lack of pleated pants on the men! It was the 90s. Most men looked dumpy.

He is very, very good in this show, but he looks horrible. He needs to put on some weight. BTW, I did not realize that he could actually act until this show. He needs to stay away from the romantic comedies.

He lost about 40 pounds for the movie he has a best actor nomination for. Someone with details, please fill in. Anyway, he is gaining weight.

tried watching the first episode and thought it was way too slow.

Definitely go see him in Dallas Buyer's Club, great acting.

he was phenomenal in that movie. He's done dramatic roles in the past, too - people just remember the romcoms and magic mike because they were bigger box office.

I'm through episode 2 and am loving it. I love a wordy drama with complicated story lines. Plus, the transformation of the MM character is compelling to watch. Yes, please go see Dallas Buyer's Club for the PP who did not know that MM can act. He was phenomenal in that role and it was not in the least bit flattering. From a character standpoint, yes...but not in terms of appearance. I'm guessing they shot the True Detective episodes not too long after he filmed the movie. He's a buff guy, but healthy...probably not immediate weight gain.

this isn't the first time he dropped weight to play a role, either.

PP here who cannot spell. I too realized how well he can act, especially when he does he present day (or is it 2012) interview. And he is supposed to look like shit in those interviews I assume to show how much of a downward spiral his character has taken. He is just a genius in the charismatic pseudo heavy drinking way. He looks very yummy when they clean him up for the flashbacks. Now I want to see Dalls Buyers Club after watching him in this show.

I find the long shot of Underwear/Mask Guy very frightening. In fact, this whole show is so moody and eerie that DH was saying last night he is suprised the Louisiana tourism board hasn't complained.

"Product placement" is not about fiction/non-fiction or truth, pp. It's about associations.

You don't have much of a sense of humor, do you?

Wonder if Cohle is going to have an affair with Woody's character's wife.
