No kidding. I was feeling pretty good with 40K in my emergency fund and 10K in my short terms savings.

My checking balance is often below $3k.

HHI $91k a year.

I've got $4.58 of cold hard cash sitting in a box in a drawer in case I need buy a soda or just need to be the tooth fairy.

The checking account stays under $1k once bills are paid for the week. Because that's all I got left.

I've got about $15-$20 I can steal from my wife's purse, so that's easily available. Debating whether to start taking it a buck at a time or just taking all the extra money that's in there.

Another $400 or so in the kids' saving accounts that I could skim.

$180k HHI poster here.

I also recommend stealing all $20 at once. Multiple thefts = multiple chances for your wife to notice what's wrong. One theft = hey woman, can't you keep track of your money?

I don't have a problem getting caught in the act since there's usually a few minutes every day when the kids are asleep and she's in the shower. But you're right, if she noticed that money was missing repeatedly we would end up talking about how I should get a better job.

Ha!

HHI: $57K

I've got a piggy bank with about $12 in it. And I think I have a stash of $6 or so at the office.

Checking account has $1604 right now, but rent and utilities are due in 10 days, plus I need groceries this week, so that'll be gone, plus the $300 I'll have to transfer from savings to cover it all (had some unexpected expenses this month). The checking account averages about $100/mo after bills.

I have $1100 in savings. About $300 in the Kid's savings account.

I have about $10K in checking cushion plus liquid savings. Another $15K or so in an asset account i could liquidate if I had to do so. HHI is about $100K.

Poor? You sound pretty average to me.

OMG! I used to keep estimated taxes in an account. Just before tax time, it was huge. Some dumb financial advisor told me to "invest it" Yikes. It is due quarterly, yo!

I have $140K in cash because that's 8 months of living expenses. If your expenses are high, chances are your income is high as well.

HHI in approx $115K (NoVA); we have about $9k between two savings accounts and another $45K accessible if necessary. But that's it essentially. Two kids in daycare at $2500 a month doesn't leave much left for socking away!
