If you've had a dog that died how did it happen?

Old age. Our golden/lab mix left us at thirteen. All of a sudden he was on his side and breathing heavily. A neighbor helped me get him into the car and at the vet, they put him to sleep. No greater dog ever lived and I can still feel his presence every day.
