OMG! This is a 'real' thing? This (utter rudeness) has been happening in my house for the last month and last night for me was almost the last straw. Thought about taking away the car, phone, returning new monitor i just bought etc..... Still seething right now as i write this. |
It is indeed a real thing, and learning about it can sometimes take the edge off. We noticed improvements by the first winter break. |
Is your kid 18? If so it's totally legal to boot them out the door WITH YOUR FOOT if they've become impossible to live with |
Pretty extreme take. This is run of the mill soiling the nest for many kids. Setting calm boundaries and being the ADULT in the situation helps a lot. This triggered Gen X reaction of kicking the kid out ensures a lot of resentment and pain in the future (source: I was a decent kid who was kicked out at 18 and one week). |
Roughing the Nest
Completely normal, this is exactly when it happens, right before heading off to college. Usually a short phase, followed by some appreciation for you once they are away from home and grow up some. |
This behavior is common with teenage male virgins (think the American Pie boys). Often they just need to get laid and they'll lighten up. OP, you should encourage your son to find a girlfriend for the summer, or at least a booty call/FWB. |
OMG I could have written this! |
You sound like an idiot. |
I hope you're a teenager or college student yourself and not a grown adult raising kids. |
+1 |
No it actually is not. You would need to evict them and there is a huge legal process. Stay in your lane crazy lady. |
Yes, when they are 18 legally you are not a mommy. Play your cards right can be the end of your relationship. |
Sadly, I think PP is an adult, probably in the 35-45 range, judging from the '90s references like American Pie as well as the terms "booty call" and "FWB," neither of which I think I've ever heard my own Gen-Z'ers use. It sounds like the same poster who constantly belittles people who weren't in frats, as though getting a bid is still the proudest accomplishment of their life. Peaking in high school and college is real, and sad. |
If parents constantly refer to said kid as a genius, it is highly probable that kid is a narcissistic a$$hole. |
