PSA - Red Stoplight does NOT mean to get on your cellphone

It is against the law. I do it but will acknowledge that it's not wise.

But cops don't enforce the law. And they are doing the same thing.

What is so important that people need to check their phone while stopped at a light?
Anonymous
There’s absolutely no problem looking at your phone when stopped at a stop light.

And, no, “every single time” you’re at a light this isn’t happening to you.

this, but in DC

My Tesla makes a noise when the light turns green. Relax

I need to check if my Target order pick up is ready.

Sometimes I’m looking over to the right or left for a split second and someone is honking at me! Calm down you effing idiot. I’m not on the phone. I just turned my head for a few seconds. Sheesh!!!

Yes. You think looking at phones while driving is harmless and doesn't cause accidents. ? Can anyone really be so self-centered and clueless??

Absolutely nothing. But look how half the people on this chain are defending it. I feel depressed for humanity.

+1

I don’t get on my phone at red lights, but I also DGAF if you honk at me after 1 second. I’m going to make sure the intersection is clear (or be certain that no pedestrians are crossing before I make a turn). I value my and my family’s life more than whether the person 4 cars back has to wait through another light cycle.

Also how can OP even see that the person 3 cars ahead of her is on their cell phone? Impatient drivers are just as much of a hazard as people looking at their phone. Leave your house earlier so you don’t have to be rushed and angry at intersections.

Honest question. What on earth are you doing while waiting at a red light then?

You should be watching the road/intersection and still looking around while stopped on red. So when the light turns green, you should ALREADY KNOW if it's safe to proceed. You do not need to wait unless there is already an active situation.

You should NOT be spacing out, applying makeup, on your phone.

Exactly! This is why I don't believe the people standing still at a green light are cautious or safe drivers. They are just checked out.

I assume the driver checking their phone has something very important going on, like their wife is in labor. I will wait as long as it takes. Now, if the car behind me starts honking, I shrug and point to the car ahead of me. If that person becomes enraged and decides to confront the driver refusing to proceed at a green light, well, so be it.

Where are you driving that you need to honk at someone every.single.time you are at a light? I’m from Jersey so you know so love my horn but I can’t remember the last time I needed to honk at someone for this.

I think some of you need to lose the privilege of driving a car. Take the bus or ride a bike for a while until you can behave responsibly. You're the reason insurance costs are going up.

Oh the irony. When in traffic, pay attention and do what you're supposed to do (go on green, stop on red). People have every right to get your attention if you're zoning out.

Anonymous wrote:Agree, OP. And people need to be less shy about honking. You get a quick “1 Missisdippi” before I beep you. It’s so rude to waste time and cause traffic by using your phone at a red light.

Lay off the horn already. People are neurotic. I always wait a beat before proceeding through a green because of impatient ashbums like OP who are on their way to rescue Lassie from the well and try to make the red light.
