Girl, are you for real? Listen to Reputation for example. A Matty Healy coded album. Don’t Blame my drug is my baby, love made me crazy, if it doesn’t you ain’t doing it right. Or his song Oh Caroline, you are always on my mind that he wrote for her. They both have been obsessing for years. He is in dozens of her songs across at least 6 albums, but possibly 1989 too. One of them would write a song, the other would respond with coded lyrics or a music video that gave them nods. She wrote, “You taught me a secret language I can’t speak with anyone else”, referring to this back and forth creative inspiration, longing & lust they had going on for years. And most likely she saw him secretly on many occasions as alluded to in songs like Illicit Affairs and many others.

Fan girls like you are why Q took hold of so many nutters in this country. And Taylor is just laughing on the way to the bank. I love that for her.

It was a classic rebound romance. As often happens, it was with someone she's been friends with for a long time, which is why her heartbreak was doubly painful. She has a hard time trusting people because she's been betrayed before.

It seems that Matty is someone who she did trust and so when he made all these promises and talked about marriage and babies, she believed him. She hadn't felt that spark for a long time - her relationship with Joe had become stale and she felt like she was the one doing all the work. Matty love bombed her, she fell HARD, and then he ghosted her and pulled the rug out from under her feet. She lost not only a lover, but a really good friend.

It all makes for some really compelling songs. But not a lasting relationship.

This is just her side of the story though.
Maybe she gave him an ultimatum, and he told her not to try to change him? She did go overboard with her collaborations with Ice Spice right after that overblown story of his and the talk show’s comments about Ice Spice, which was her trying to fix his public image. I doubt he ghosted her without ever giving her an indication of why. He loved/loves her too you know.
