Outcomes basically the same - go to school where GPA is easier to manage and is more affordable

The outcomes are not basically the same. Chicago places more than UVA despite UVA haning 2.5X as many students.

Absolutely agree. People do not want to see it but it is true

But not drastic enough to justify price differential

They said besides the cost in the OP. Maybe they do not care? If it were mine I would pick UChicago over UVA every day of the week and twice on Sunday, happily writing the checks to have more opportunities not just for premed but in the likely case of a change of major/plan. As it happens mine said no to both, for yet another albeit smaller opportunity boost over Uchicago.

Agree if cost isn’t a factor Chicago is a bit stronger. I had the impression it’s very challenging to maintain a good gpa at Chicago though

If true, is that because it is U Chicago or because kids attending U Chicago had higher stats to start with? The question DCUM doesn't seem to be able to answer . . .

An example. A few years ago, Chicago graduates taking the LSAT scored an average of 166 to 160.8 for UVA grads. There were 10 Chicago grads at Yale Law School (generally considered the top law school) and 6 for UVA. Chicago has about 7,500 undergraduates vs. 17,500 at UVA. Chicago has proportionately quite a few more (albeit with a small sample size). Is that because Chicago provides a better education and/or confers more status, or does it just have graduates who are pre-dispositioned to score higher (because their average SAT/ACT scores were higher)? Would the outcome be different if the high stat Chicago kid had gone to UVA instead?

very different. VT is not well represented at top law or top med.
thread is on UC vs Uva though.

Chicago is significantly better represented than UVA at top law and top med on a per capita basis. The question is would a high stat Chicago accepted kid have the same outcomes if they enrolled at UVA? Someone above said that would be the same, which begged the question would it still be the same at VT.

And yet UVA has more Rhodes Scholars than Chicago

When all you have is a hammer, the whole world looks like a nail. . .

And yet, if you consider UVA has about 2.4X as many students as Chicago and only has a couple more winners, Chicago produces well over 2X as many winners as UVA on a per capita basis. Heck, Washington and Lee has 3X as many on a per capita basis.
