Nonsense. BU, CWRU, Lehigh, WM, UMD, Ohio St., Pitt and UMN didn't seem to care that DS from class of '23 bypassed AP lang/lit and Spanish.

A list of shit colleges, thanks for proving my point.

Isn't it time to go upstairs to see what Mom cooked for supper?

OP here, I'd be very happy if my DS ended up at many of these schools, if he felt they were a good fit for him. We are just trying to keep options open at this point as best we can, while encouraging him to work hard without burning out.

I have an 11th grader currently going thru finals and prepping for AP exams (we don't live in the DMV where finals have not existed for years, but we did, for most of his education). He is displaying signs of burn out now. So I hear you, but don't anticipate he can't do things til you're on the cusp of them, he may surprise you.

What do you mean “the DMV where finals have not existed for years”? My kids are at DC high school and they have finals and the finals count for 20% of their final grade. Also, no credit for late work and no re-takes for tests either.

Moco did away with finals a while ago.

MoCo is not the DMV, so there’s some unnecessary extrapolation happening in OP’s post. Plenty of DMV kids are taking finals.

The DMV means DC, Maryland and Virginia. Montgomery County is Maryland.

I imagine it varies by school/teacher, but my 11th grader is in AP Spanish at a private school right now and has not found it to be particularly hard -- APUSH is harder, and regular English is similarly demanding. They will do AP Lit next year. Anyway, it may be possible, work-load wise, to do both and I would not close the door to either right now, if you can avoid it.
